They only become outstripped if gov doesn't continue building them.In 1960s..did Kenyans have jobs..no.Informality can be dealt with Rwanda style..by making it illegal or for me by gov stepping in.There is money..that generating slumscrappers

Dirigistse/state planned economy failed miserably in Africa and elsewhere. We don't have the endless resources you envision the gova throwing around at whatever pet projects you dream of. If it were that easy Uhuruto would have done it long time ago. The real culprit is runaway population growth. Unless we get that under control neither productivity nor government will be able to cover the gap. China tamed its population before it could make the leap, we are not serious about addressing our population challenge.

Uhuru failed otherwise if Ruto was in charge we would be well on the way to 0.5m houses now.Our population growth has been reigned on..the inflection point happened 5yrs ago in 2016.We now have less and less kids.We cannot just sit and wait for slums to disappear kn it's own.Poor Rwanda is doing it.We can do more

Productivity of what? Let not get into polemics that don't make any sense.

Pundit - why don't you understand the importance of productivity? You think wealth is created from heaven? Bwana asifiwe? You  have to make things that people want or need and export them. Africans make nothing and this is why it's the poorest continent in the world today.

Without making anything, you'll need oil (like the Arabs; without oil, arabs would be as poor as Africans because they too make nothing) Maybe kenya should keep focusing on trying to find oil because it's obvious that the general population just doesn't have what it takes to move up the food chain of productivity.

The other question I have is, even if you decided to build new apartments, how do you get rid of the existing slums and slum-estates that have been run down? As well as all the apartments built in places like kileleshwa that were constructed with no infrastructure systems in place? i.e. how do you repair of fix the current problem? or do you just leave those ugly structures there?

Low IQ.Economy is wide including entertainment, social services, tourism Definitely real estate is big part of productivity. Kibe is generating money by trash talking..that is productivity. Yes manufacturing has greatest multiplier of 10...but kibe probably generate two jobs..one in some advertising agency..and one tech job to keep  his half million fans engaged.Building a single house generate six jobs.We might not be ready for manufacturing..but we are ready for real estate n construction.

Mwafrika productive is shafted by criminal  dollar printing enterprise. Whether it is gold, diamonds, oil, coffee, tea, name it.

Informal online gigs seem to be ones crawling back though kidogo sana. Government should just lay the infrastructure for cheap faster internet al over not ujinga ya Konza and Ajira likes.
