What is the subtext here? It not in public domain that any donor is complaining? Perhaps some donor or UN told him to go slow on BBI? or some tough conditions from IMF were issued to him Or what the deal here?

The lameduck better oil all the orifices because IMF and WB when they come - will not come with niceties - it will be either you do this or economy crashes.

The only partner i would think of a donor remotely that is , is only Chinese , but then Chinese dont like meddling in local issues politically
 Taking advantange in a place they are to gain financially  like the case of South Sudan yes .

Or Maybe Biden during the phone call told him something ? Have EU talked to him in private after Brexit. We will soon lnow

Yes Biden maybe gave him a dressing down. Chinese are TOUCH as nail when it come to their money. Hapo hakuna michezo. I think Uhuru had approached Chinese asking for rescheduling - but Chinese saw it all coming from African and 3rd world - and they quickly joined G20 debt relief programme - G20 has hired IMF/WB to do that - that basically mean you cannot do bilateral deals - IMF is EU - WB is US - hapa the lameduck has no option but to ENACT UNPOPULAR DECISIONS.

Already taxes are back to pre-covid. And raft of painful conditions will be issued.

The worst is IMF has an issue with CBK managing KSHS - if they tell it to float it freeeeeeeeely - MAYO MAYO MAYO hapo . IMF for long think KSH should be 150-170 to a dollar This will be great news for few exporters like tea farmers - but kenya gov debt will become a mountain - and importers will cry.

Nominal GDP will almost half...like Sudan has done...and Angola too.

Uhuru has himself to blame and his handshake...for bringing total confusion and lack of confidence in his gov.

But first he MUST SUBMIT TO IMF_WB DSSI -Debt Service Suspension Initiative - and then IMF/WB - will effectively run the gov - in liue of suspending debt.

Yes Ndii is being vindicated on Jubilee 1 debt binge and sham economics. He was also right about sleaze then and now - I believe him about the Eurobond and SGR heists. These were principally looting avenues. Jubilee 2 obviously has better economics - leverage infras or areas with huge marginal utility like subway or literail.

The same Ndii believes BBI is evil... I disagree He is a brilliant economist not a political analyst.

About Uhuru: I don't think he has the oomph or stupid enough to tell off Biden so directly. Must be IMF and WB. Kenya needs to stick to EU bilateral loans - France, Italy, etc. Aachane na IMF has never been worth it starting with ESAP mass retrenchments in the 90s that made so many families suffer.

Your new hero Ndii and economists disagree. Borrow&build was a boneheaded strategy. What Jubilee 2 is doing is development. Metro-rail I have seen on youtube has cut commute hours... need to be extended to satellites- Macha, Kiambu, etc. The "successes" of Jubilee 1 are the cause of today's tears.

Everyone knows Ruto fingerprints and footprints of success was in Jubilee 1.0. Raila fingerpints and footprints of confusion and anarchy is in Jubilee 2.0. Uhuru at very least is running this regime single-handedly - and getting political assistance from Raila to edge out Ruto from the drivers seat.

Jubilee 1.o indeed borrowed and BUILT something. This one is doing nothing except fight Ruto. That too look like an epic failure because Ruto remain as strong and as popular as ever.

When you talk of a metro rail -you're talking of NYS maintaining few lines in Nairobi..but what are the numbers here? Old Mugithi train was carrying 10,000...I bet is struggling to carry 15,000...and extra 5,000. Their big target to carry 30,000 passengers daily in medium term. Small dream. Small Ambitions.

Meanwhile a million of Narobeans are stuck in traffic in daily!. Nairobi needs a metro - but it cannot be done cheaply - it has to be 1-2B dollars investment. The cost of building metros is known. You cannot just get NYS to pour gravel on old line and buy a few used diesel units...and call that a metro. 

BRT is needed - but you cannot go to Thika  high and paint one lane red - and call that BRT - that one became DOA - what a waste of paint.

Nairobi has a housing crisis - it cannot be sorted by building 500 units only in Ngara. When 2m  housing units are required. 60% of Nairobi live in SLUMS. That is a crisis - that cannot be sorted - in small doses. It requires an intervention that is serious and urgent.

Kenya economy including manufacturing has serious issues - it cannot be sorted by small acts.

It requires SERIOUS EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP to get stuff in a NATIONAL SCALE like Jubilee 1.0 did in roads, rails and electricity.

The only thing Jubilee or Uhuru is doing worth talking about is Mombasa road by Chinese (a private toll roll) - and hopefully he didn't screw up the French who will do the Rironi to Mau Summit. Those are GAME CHANGES.  Next would be to start from Machakos Junction all the way to Mombasa. Eventually Malaba to Mombasa should be expressway. The same for major roads like Thika to Isiolo. Nairobi to Namanga. Mau-summit to Busia. All major arteries should be at least double lanes to ensure smooth, faster and safer travel.

National gov should not be doing county gov  job like they are attempting in Nairobi. Those small projects belong to counties. Now Uhuru is "busy" with Badi launching garbage collection, cleaning of parks, renovating of old rail lines and other SUCH NONSENSE that SONKO can do. These are 1st world issues - maintenance of existing infrastructure - best left to mayors and governors.

We have 3rd world issues - non-existent of BASIC infrastructure.
