I was visiting my aunt and my cousin who was old enough to have interacted with my grandfather told me that my grandfather told her that he was born at around the city mortuary that where his dad and his 6 wives lived. They lost the land to colonial govt and moved the family to Ruaka where they were again displaced by the colonial settlers. Some of my grandfather step brothers remained in nairobi and we have a street named after my great grandfather near village market.
Man was it not for colonialism we would be owning Nairobbery. Funny enough one of my dad's cousin became DC and nyakuad a lot land in Karen and Ngong so he at least redeemed the family. My dad aunt in Lari was to suffer the greatest tragedy of Lari massarce after her son Juddah Ngumba was hanged for being the key organizer of Lari massarce. He was a wealthy bachelor who was so dedicated to Mau Mau that he didn't marry. When he was detained in Githunguri he was given an option to escape death penalty by denouncing mau mau he told the colonial prosecutor that he had no kids so no one I'll suffer so he should hang him. He was hanged and burried in unmarked grave. Everyone in the family pleaded with him for months to agree to predeal but he died like a soldier. In retribution the colonial govt took my dad's aunt land. They went from the richest family to paupers..they worked their way back into wealth after independence but that trauma made them very antisocial and fierce. My uncles never suffered fools they would beat people at the slightest provocation
