Yes indeed. The whole of Coast and NE are a hot zone.

Gov basically has given up. I think they should lessen the burden by devolving part of security to counties....chicken thieves, traffic offenders and such petty crimes should be handled by Kanjo askari..they can be trained in NYS and armed with batons and light weapons (g3)...leaving cops to deal with serious crimes...all the cops then should be stationed in NEP, North Rift, Upper eastern and Coast. 90% of the remaining police and AP should be deployed in the battle zone...not left to harras peaceful people looking for bribes.

Yes indeed. The whole of Coast and NE are a hot zone.
Closing mosques only creates more problems.

The solution is simple: Withdraw from Somalia and pursue and neutrality policy towards all the warring parties. Make it clear any party attacking Kenya would have assets of the supporters in Kenya sold to pay the damages.

Stop EJK in Mombasa and start talking to everyone.

The story is all over major news network CNN, MSNBC, and FOX. If there was any hope to resuscitate Tourism industry they might as well forget it and focus on security. Military barracks around Nairobi should be relocated to counties neighboring somalia, sudan ethiopia and Uganda.  At this rate its a matter of time before Alshabaab start targeting infrastructure like bridges and railroad. Ole lenku is doing a good job, people have to understand ole Lenku is nothing but internal security spokesperson the ministry is ran from statehouse, lenku has no say all his suggestions are overruled.

It is the case that Kenyan military has been in Somalia for some time, even though Deputy President Ruto just threatened to send them there.  And so it is logical for many to ask questions about just what it is that they have been doing over there.   But we should look at the big picture and consider the money that has been flowing into Kenya from KDF's charcoal business there.   I will also repeat something I have "said" before: from Mt. Elgon to Wagalla, the last thing Kenyans need is KDF operating in Kenya.  So, I disagree with Omollo's suggestion that they be pulled back to Kenya.

Ole Ole says that his fellow Ole is doing a good job.   Wow.   I could do with some Ole-weed!

Moon ki, Ole lenku is nothing but a PR person the ministry is ran from statehouse in most cases ole Lenku reads the message forwarded to him from statehouse. Uhuru and karangi wants to be incharge of defense and internal security docket, honestly would you hold Omamo liable for KDF misadventure?

So technically KDF are busy in Somalia whilst the enemy is operating unhindered behind them?  Wait until the kebabs cut off supply lines and start killing these dodgy soldiers from behind .... It will be a blood bath....

The war in somalia is complete failure. The sooner we withdraw from somalia the better. We went there in hot pursuit..now alshabab have made kenya their playground.

Tourism is now as dead as dodo..and yet we ran to somalia to save tourism.

Withdrawal as a solution to insecurity is no longer an option. That expired the day Al Shabaab decided to relocate to NEP and make it a base.

Measures need to be taken to train more GSU and give police paramilitary training for deployment in NEP, Eastern and a buffer around Central. KDF should be sent back to the barracks as soon as possible and removed and excluded from internal security matters. If not, you can count on a coup within the next 5 years.

Here are the usual stages:

1. Military inserts itself in internal security
2. Suffers defeat due to long standing deficiencies brought on by corruption, bad equipment, lethargy and the fact that the elite started looking at the military as "job" for their kids and never envisaged war;
3. Recriminations between the civilian leadership and the corrupt high command
4. Pre-emptive action either by the High Command or the civilian government. One wins and if not
5. Civil war with the so called national military disintegrating in to small factions
6. Average length of civil war in Africa - 20 years (and rising)
The war in somalia is complete failure. The sooner we withdraw from somalia the better. We went there in hot pursuit..now alshabab have made kenya their playground.

Tourism is now as dead as dodo..and yet we ran to somalia to save tourism.

The hustler has said the attackers were all killed.  Before they could celebrate or eat supper.  That there is nothing to worry about.

"I can assure you that those behind the attack did not even take their supper. They were killed by our officers who we sent out immediately after the attack. They did not find time to celebrate their heinous crime," he said.

So these camps and terrorists have been there all the time, while KDF was doing ...? Suddenly, Ruto says we'll get them, and bang!   Just like that.   Interesting.

Anyways ...

100 is a nice round number, of the type that Kenyans can easily related to... like 100%.   Perhaps it included the 15-20 terrorists who were at Westgate.   I'm sure the government would like to provide proof of KDF's great and immediate achievement, but due to ongoing security operations, and their own safety, journalists cannot be allowed onto the area.

anybody in those lawless areas esp if you are a target based on religion, tribe, clan you have to arm yourself.. that teachers, doctors and other professionals will shun these areas is such a big blow to modernisation... they will be in the dark for another 200 years

that the al shabaab is now based in kenya using locals is just tragic

the tragedy is that ruto seems to have become clueless just like lenku and kimaiyo who were there grinning sheepishly or goodluck  ... that uhuru was watching grand prix and didn't hand over with pomp like they did the other day

Unless you're a security officer; it suicidal to be anywhere in NEP now. You can as well fly into Mogadishu and you'll be safer there.

What is need to be done...every time such many number of kenyans die....we need a public INQUEST to determine what exactly went wrong.

Uhuru should have ordered an inquest into Mandera killing....and then an actionable report is acted upon. This will including summoning all the ground forces, NIS,prov admin and county leaders.

Macharia and IPOA guys did a meaningful audit of Mpeketoni ...not sure whether any action has been taken even against the NIS officer said to have colluded with the attackers .....

I see Kimayo and Lenku now want to disable Macharia by placing IPOA under Kavulundi ...this report was even removed from IPOA site
http://www.ipoa.go.ke/downloads/other-documents
but thanks it is available here

Yes IPOA are doing okay. DPP should also order a public inquest into such mass murderer with a view of finding out if anybody was criminally negligent. We have to stop blaming Ole Lenku, Uhuru, Kimaiyo. Even if we change all those guys...nothing will change on the ground.

We baldy need INQUEST into any killings of more than 10 kenyans.

The inquest could probably start with westgate.  If nobody is asking questions about what went down in westgate, these Mandera killings will vanish faster than you can say move on.

Kenya is in a situation where remaining in power trumps everything else.

I think ultimately DPP as public prosecutor should take the lead if Uhuru cannot do that. Westgate,Pokot,Lamu and such needed to have public inquest. Maybe we can make it a law..everytime..there is mass killings...we do an inquest.

We have to start valuing our lives.

I agree on the value of life.  It should be no different for Turkana in Kapedo or a muhindi in Westgate.  However the inquests would likely come out with reports.  The reports will be put somewhere to gather dust, if they don't blame ODM.  The Kenyan mwananchi's life is viewed very casually.

It would appear that the KDF has decided to provide evidence for their story.  A picture of "dead Al Shabab".  The star says they have timestamps from 2012.  Who is going to believe any story from KDF?
