Munaisha aje?
In Kalenjin - Kokwet - village guy is nearest to you family.
We really value harmony and peace.
After you family - next is your clansmen - next your bakule(those who were cut together in mtc) - next is kokwet (Village mate) - next is boriet - next kalenjin community.
It unimaginable that villagers will attack or get angry with villagers over siasa.
A village mate is closes to you family.

Arguments with fellow villagers never get heated - and enmity is really frowned upon.

The kokwet, or neighborhood, was the most important political unit, and geographic proximity served as a foundation for Nandi relationships.

Ni kama siasa imeaanza in some communities recently - together with democracy.
Kalenjin people use to meet and the argue - over everything - then vote - long before politics came with British.
The club that you see Moi carried - was one to regulate the meetings.
You held the club when you time to speak - everyone else listen - quarrelsome arguments were discouraged - and people made speeches, argued their position, pros, cons, name it.
until a decision was arrived - normally at village level.
Leaders were elected based  leadership abilities - ability to argue - merit, courage, etc

When Moi imposed his dictatorship - Kalenjin regressed for 20yrs - but eventually Kalenjin told Moi to go jump into the boiling water of Bogoria.
And from then - restored the old values of democracy, consensus and politics bereft of violence

My father opposed Moi for all his life; he was never beaten;
I only know of one guy who supported Jaramogi and still support Raila who got beat in 1992.
This by some dude because jaramogi was initially leading and he was rubbing on majority
So some dude got a  wooden club and knocked him out.

Yes there is extend that you can go that people will see it betrayal but generally after from few reclusive people - if difference is political - but on other village matters you are supporting folks hakuna shida. For you they would just say you're Raila or Tinga or Jaramogi guy. You find one or two such people in every village. Most in kalenjin are called TINGA tinga :) - for NDP symbol of Raila.

In kalenjin if one person scream - trust me - you aint getting out of village - because everyone will come out - and respond.

Outside you village now - HAPO NI SHIDA. You dont try to say stuff in place nobody knows you - I escaped in 2002 several beatings in bars - most of the time saved by my villagemates. People can tolerate their village mate being in AZIMIO but dont go where you're unknown and expect the same treatment - you'll be be beaten.

Being brothers keeper is very very important - so politics can never get into personal and village relationship.

I love Kalenjin culture, politics, arguments, and order of things. I remember back in the 90s when pombe mtaani started wrecking families and young men in my village. Kokwet (neighborhood) met and deliberated on the way forward for days. The decision was reached by the majority on how to curb the menace. The decision was reached that every Saturday around 3-6 pm, at Kokwet under a big mogoywet tree, the offenders would be disciplined by two 7 foot military officers (Abraham Kitur and Nicholas Cheruiyot). Both used to train army recruits at Moi Barracks, so they were highly revered. Men and women alike were caned in front of the public every Saturday for almost a decade. By year one, Pombe, hopelessness, and drugs were vanquished entirely in the 4 surrounding villages. Grades in school went up, marriages became stable, and everything changed completely. If you misbehaved as a young man back then Cheruiyot name when thrown around you will change you act very quick or you will shit on your pants every Saturday if your name is forwarded by kokwet.
The future belongs to those who have a quarter of the character and integrity of RV Heavy Hitter!

Yes that cohesion and harmony creates very stable and happy communities; Individualism that western life brings only work in urban areas where everyone locks themselves up in their apartments; even in our village we had such a guy; who'd discipline especially men - who after MTC - couldnt be told anything by their parents. Nyumba kumi has brought them back - and now they are straightening village - they come and whip the offender - and justice is served.

Gov need to embrace Nyumba kumi and village elders - by paying them some stipend - to ensure they deal with problems at village level - before we have thugs and criminals killing or robing or etc.

In Uganda - M7 has something like that - elected - and in Kenya - we need elected village elders and nyumba kumi (village  by-laws enforcers) - who serves for every two years - paid by counties - small stipend - their job to stump out drug addicts, miscreants, criminals and such.

Too much freedom will see many get lost into many vices as frustration of life kicks in.

This cohesion disappears when your community is dealing with other tribes.

That sounds reckless, dangerous and out rightly stupid.

For a place you are invested in, why do you want to be alienated. Siasa yes, but having strangers beat up village mates.

For peace of mind you need to be in the loops of chicken thieves; any serious thugs; relative doing drugs. You may end up in a ditch in those muddy paths at night.

I  will continue mocking them fools. There is no love lost between me and them. They run us out of town because they love stealing and if you got money they make you a target. Jealous in kiambu is legendary.

The same assholes that were robbing my parents will come to me to help them with school fees. I sometimes help them or promise them money and block them immediately. People are terrible. They almost killed my parents twice. Fuck them dimwits

Eish! Terrible. Best would be to totally disinvest.

The strangers easily join hands with villagers, relathieves once they sense you are alienated.

My people are terrible assholes. They really terrorized my family from 1986 and then it became very serious in thex1990s. My sisters couldn't live at home they had to live in an apartment in nairobi. That why I am an asshole to kenyans. They are full of fakeness..laugh with you while plotting how to murder you. So I provoke this arseholes and poke fun at their cognitive dissonance. The police got tired and My dad cousin who was dcio in nairobi sent a crack squad with 3 weeks They had arrested 12 guys. The police just got tired of going to court and just told my parents to not bother with the court anymore. What they did is they put the mastermind in a cell with drug resistance tb. Since he had aids they knew once infected he was going not to recover. Long story short they dropped him in his house and six months later he died. He used to beg my parents to go and so that he can ask for forgiveness but didn't happen. The guy was a step brother to an rcbowen netter.  He was a genius criminal. I will write how he carried his crimes

Pole that shiet is hard and Ruto has added fuel to the class divide. The hustler Nation thing if mishandled can cause Rwanda type impolsion in places like Kiambu.

Must have been stocko exchange wa Canada. She was your village mate. I remember her stories. I think she worked in agriculture research. May she RIP. She was very intelligent and good natured.

Stocko wasted her genius. She had a degree in soil science that was her area of research. She got a scholarship to Canada and stayed on there with no legal residency. She was a pure genius. My mum taught her and she skipped most of her lower primary classes she was too bright to be in those classes

Yeah Ruto has raised the hopes of the unwashed; if Uhuru was to rig; mt kenya elite will face their wrath; I had seen this; but you guys say; hell no; There is a feeling amongst poor in central; that they have been used in political warfare; that their elite are self-centered; that they are no sharing the pie; that some people have too much money; while some are going hungry; they also feel that Uhuru is ready to start war with Kalenjin; where they will suffer; while the rich will be flying out with helicopters; so it's powerdeg; it evokes the memories of mau mau - homeguard civil war.Kikuyu spend more time killing each other than kills Brits - homeguard seeing Mau mau as terrorist - while mau mau seeing them as betrayers. We could have that civil war in kikuyu nations very soon if elections are mishandled.
