Kibaki dies. RIP
« on: April 22, 2022, 12:15:42 PM »
Arguably one of  the most brilliant politician in kenya.
A great economist.
A gentleman.

It such a shame 2002-2007 tribalism & pogrom soiled his otherwise excellent public career.

May he rest in peace.

We all make mistakes in life and the most important thing is not to repeat them but correct them.

After 2007/8 crisis,He tried his best to see that we got a new constitution,Handed over power peacefully and left, what more could one ask for?

That probably only thing we share with you.
My father was greatest admirer and supporter of Kibaki.
I naturally grew up supporting him...
The Kibaki of 70s and 80s was remarkable.
In the 90s he still had it...
Sadly old age and bad health - allowed rascals around him to take advantage and mess his legacy.
Narc was epic moment for kenya.
It was a moment we should have slayed tribalism
Kibaki failed - and totally mismanaged his politics - despite growing the economy  - he lost election and had to rig - leading to war.

Either bad health or something - but he allowed small cabal to undo the narc revolution.
Betrayed kenyans by bringing tribalism back and shoving a very bad constitution draft - that was rejected by almost 60 percent.
Instead of learning from it - he went on to kick 60 percent of kenyans to opposition - bringing KANU of Moi and Biwott back. Shocking.
A good leader - should have listened.
Then he refused to play politics.
Despite economy growing at 7 percent - he became unpopular - and lost election
He had brazenly rig - and led kenya to worse of it's modern history - 0.6m uprooted from their homes and many killed, injured and raped.

2002-2007 - he failed in politics - and succeed in economics.

That is why you need someone like Ruto or Mboya - who can play both.

R.I.P

You hit the nail on the head. The political problems we have today are generally Kibaki's failure to steer the country in the right political direction after his sounding victory in 2002. The man surrounded himself with homeboys who brought nothing to his election victory, but were hungry for power they did not deserve.

I never admired Kibaki and even doubted his ability to lead the country after his car accident. The politics of 2003 till 2007 confirmed my fears. Other people run the country for Kibaki. After 2008, the man woke up a bit from his deep slumber.

That probably only thing we share with you.

Did kibaki start election violence in Kenya?

When he lost 1992 election,Moi & Kalenjin leaders caused death of over 2000 people majority kikuyu.

When kibaki lost the 1997 election,The same KANU kalenjin group caused massive Kikuyu luo deaths in Rift valley and Likoni.

Moi used to cause this violence through majority kalenjins in the police and army,In 2002 they were squarely defeated, when kibaki defeated them again in 2007,they couldn't it stomach it.

Violence in 1992 1997 and 2007 election has one COMMON DENOMINATOR Anti kikuyu violence in Rift valley,The rest are just cosmetics.

This thing of blaming kibaki is HOGWASH.

You're mixing
1991/1992 election violence had nothing to do with Kibaki.
Kibaki was in KANU until 1991 Dec.
Violence in RV in 1992 was against all communities that were thought to support opposition (FORD).
The idea was to push them out of rift valley and disenfranchise them.
Moi indeed started it - and ended it - when donors pressed his balls.
The army or police played zero role - Kalenjin just needed a trigger - and that is what Moi's NIS did
Burn a few kalenjin houses along the border - Kalenjin then raised war cry - and thousands of warriors arrived.
The violence was from mt elgon to Nyandarua/laikipia - affecting all Non-Kamatusa communities in RV - retalion kalenjin  were were affected in major cities - my big bro escaped death in thika.
It was Kalenjin-Maasai versus rest.

1998 violence targeted Kibaki.
Kibaki won 1997 election - most likely - Moi extended voting for second day claiming ballots had not reached certain areas.
Kibaki tried to go the court of appeal (supreme court)
Kones started tribal clashes in Molo warning kibaki and court of appeal- who promptly rejected petition on technicalities.
That Kones clashes was localized - unlike 1992 which was war against Luos, Luhyas, Gusii, Kikuyus.

2007 kibaki is responsible - for not stopping, not knowing, for triggering it - errors of commission and omission.

Rest in Peace Mzee. I'm sure he knows Ruto will exceed where he left. Time to restore Kibaki legacy and build on his success to lift Kenyans out of poverty and debts. Country first, Kenya kwanza

RIP

I'm not one to speak ill of the dead but history needs to remember that his ego and tribalism caused a genocide and set Kenya on the wrong course.

Had he stepped down from power as promised to Raila and KANU, Ruto under ODM would be president by now because Raila intended on just one term.

Sorry to say, but Ruto's playbook is like Raila's 20 years ago. Ruto doesn't have enough international influence to stand a chance unless he supports rainbow ideals and joins a society.

I take it he supports conservative ideals but to have that luxury in politics you need to have been born with a gold spoon in your mouth. New money isn't enough.

Anyway RIP and RIP to all the victims and closure to victims' families who didn't get their day in court but rest assured history punishes more harshly than the law.

What about the victims of the 1982 coup that was master minded by baba?
When will the closure happen?

I came back to this nipate having left the other place and chilled for 4 years because of your honest, brutal truth. I don't know why people want to hide the fact. No one was fighting in Kenya until the gang around Kibaki cooked votes to remain in power after it had been hounded out of office by Ruto's led Raila team. Post-Nyaoism, any group Ruto is on board wins. Raila won in 2007, and Uhuru won in 2013 and 2017 partly because of Ruto's powerful effort. Had Raila been declared the winner in the 2007 election, no single Kikuyu, Kalenjin, Gusii, Luhya, or Luo would have been touched. Uprooting, violence, and skirmishes would not have taken place. The injustice of such scale, by default, makes Kenyans hit the streets. Kibaki did exceptionally well economically, but his involvement in stealing Raila's win is squarely to blame for bloodletting. I hope the victims of PEV will eternally remember that so the nation can NEVER repeat such a mistake. The icing on the cake was "no Raila; no peace" made things worse. In a waring community like Kalenjins, when injustice has happened, and war is declared, there is nothing anyone can do. Prevent injustice at all costs, and Kenyan communities will live in peace forever. In 2022, if Raila wins fairly, no Kalenjin will complain, and I'm sure the same would happen to Luos if Ruto wins fairly. If Ruto wins, or Raila wins fraudulently, expect fracas that may lead to full-scale war. No one wants injustice! As a result of electoral theft, history classifies Kibaki as a failed president despite his good economic record. Lets be truthful and a better nation will emerge!
The future belongs to those who have a quarter of the character and integrity of RV Heavy Hitter!

Kibaki well hidden stroke changed him...When Kibaki took office in 2002, I was very young, so conscious knowledge of him was when he was President having had two strokes and an accident which affected his speech and his movement.

It is later through my father that I would get to learn of the man he was before the stroke. President Kibaki was eloquent, astute and spoke of issues in the 1970's that we started taking seriously in the 2000's. I cannot wait for his biography to be released because I would very much like to read about this part.

He was also quite classy and romantic which the same wouldn't be repeated about many Nyeri men. Ama ni kuficha wanafichanga😁

The kibaki of 70s and 80s was best parliamentary debator...the one in late 90s and later was poor copy of the original. Some criminals hid the stroke.Raila is slowly losing it too
