Robina,

Are you suggesting I should not post a link announcing a talk by Ngugi wa Thiong'o? I see you are identified as a moderator.

This is why I posted the following message when I joined this forum so that I could have clarity:

https://nipate.net/index.php?topic=9695.0

No moderator responded. Instead, I was told by others that it was ok to post links, so long as I did not post spam.

It would be really helpful if I could have clarity once and for all! Right now I cannot tell whether or not you speak for the majority in the forum, or whether or not you speak for the owner of the forum.

My bad - you have the right to be boring and out of touch. I think you're Njamba alter ego. Most here have time for politics, some business/economics and hot gossip. Hii Ngugi ni mnyama gani?  :) In old days we could entertain Weep Not, Child and such cultural-political meanders... not anymore. Too much cooler stuff. I thin I read Petals of Blood too thanks to my readaholic aunt, about Mau Mau exploits how they would waylay and slaughter white boy soldiers and homeguards.

I personally find it weird for someone to tell a public discussion forum that they think they know who I am, then proceed to "identify" me. So you think you know who I am? I do not really care if my real identity is exposed, so long as it's my true identity. I have nothing to hide.

As for being "boring and out of touch," is this your role as a moderator here? What is considered not boring and in touch? Please let me know.

Any rebuttal on Prof Ngungi? - I think he is a tired old cow. Very brilliant, very informative, but a generational leap back into history. Past Njamba and Pundit generation - late 30s to 50s - I doubt anyone but post-colonial scholars care for Ngugi's grievance literature. His theme is very deep, cultural post- & neocolonial political literature. Informative, emotional relics.

Not really. Admin only made me a moderator to escape bullying by RV Pundit who used to censor my anti-Ruto threads. These soft tackles are just me not censorship or moderation.

Thanks for clarifying. I do not mind being attacked. But when one has the moderator label, it is not unreasonable for newcomers to wonder whether they are breaking any rules of the house, so to speak. In the future you should clarify to newcomers what hat you're wearing when you first confront their posts. This would be in the long-term interest of the forum.

You made a point to disappear our threads during NRM mayhem... provided we criticised Ruto. Then you zeroed my reputaion points. veri made me moderator. You are well known Ruto hound dog.

The discussion by Professor Ngugi has just ended. Very interesting! According to the moderator, they had over 1000 people listening in.

Thanks.  I just went through part of the intro.  Right off the bat I don't share the view that there is any value in writing in the mother-tongue, instead of just using English for the same reason this his presentation is in English.  I'll try and make some time to watch the rest of it.

What a howler!

Don't you find it ironic that all languages of the global North are deemed fit for science and literature but somehow there is no value in ours?

I would also include Swahili as a preferred medium to mother-tongue.  Not because it’s a superior tongue.  But you reach a wider audience.  Is there a any advantage beyond ethnic pride that you can identify in using mother-tongue?
