This is how it was billed at its launch during the coalition government.

This mega project consists of seven key infrastructure projects starting with a new 32 Berth port at Lamu (Kenya); Interregional Highways from Lamu to Isiolo, Isiolo to Juba (South Sudan), Isiolo to Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), and Lamu to Garsen (Kenya), Crude Oil Pipeline from Lamu to Isiolo, Isiolo to Juba; Product Oil Pipeline from Lamu to Isiolo, Isiolo to Addis Ababa; Interregional Standard Gauge Railway lines from Lamu to Isiolo, Isiolo to Juba, Isiolo to Addis Ababa, and Nairobi to Isiolo; 3 International Airports: one each at Lamu, Isiolo, and Lake Turkana; 3 Resort Cities: one each at Lamu, Isiolo and Lake Turkana; and The multipurpose High Grand Falls Dam along the Tana River.

Fast forward to today, there is no development whatsoever, no talk of it. It just died down.

With Ethiopia now in full fledged civil war, South Sudan in interminable conflict, this thing is dead.

Lamu 3 berth ready but idle.Isiolo airport ready but idle.Turkana oil will determine the viability of lapset.Uganda pulled out.Its hard to just create a new economic corridor..will takes years to compliment the Mombasa to Nairobi to Malaba economic corridor to a lamu isiolo and lower.. but need to be done to unlock the two third of Kenya landmass.In the meantime Mombasa to malaba should be dual expressway to maximize the corridor ..so it can find lapses really long term ambitions

There is alot under the radar happening. One main problem is the powderkeg situation that isiolo is the constant wrangling and conflict over land almost everything in isiolo is disputed. Yesterday 300 armed turkanas invaded north Meru

The airport itself is a bone of contention with Meru and Isiolo both laying claim but Meru obviously with upperhand as any expansion required will go deeper into Meru territory, the airport runaway is too small half of it in Meru and Meru claims control of airport in order to allow further expansion Isiolo disputes this and on it goes with no end....

Yes security or lack of it undermine lapset; Museveni told us as much when he decided to re-route; KDF and Police need to really get there and try to pacify - at least 100 km lapset corridor as a start..but again without roads..security becomes a challenge.

The entire corridor from Lamu to Bura - Tana river to Garissa to Isiolo to Lodwar to Lokichaggar is just insecure.

Northern part of Kenya has never been pacified its still wild wild area, Museveni obviously knows too well security manenos x100 compared to gatheca he knows that's playing with Russian roulette. If Meru is most developed place in those areas and 300 armed Turkanas can go there in broad daylight at 12.30pm with 0 detection and rain bullets on police and GSU that's tell you alot. In more remote areas simply no government exist

yes, uganda m7 tamed their karamoja, but kenya is different ballgame - we are talking 2/3 of the country. Anyway I think infrastructure will help; good roads; mean police can respond quickly; telecommunication and all that.How you merus survive and thrive around Isiolo is commendable.

You need to extend Meru National Park to those areas - so it become a barrier - the gov also need to buy such border land - and turn into animal conservancies - teeming with KWS/Police.

This will stop inter-tribal conflicts.
