It makes you wonder why customs such as FGM are so hard to eradicate despite the overwhelmingly evidence of its adverse consequences. FGM - my grandmother was fgm practioner - I remember how she camped in our home trying to convince my sisters to go for it - they refused. Well if you asked her FGM did have their purpose. One was to control sexual urges of women in nomadic communities where men could wander for months with cattle - and come back six months later. You'll find most circumscion were practised by those nomadic communities of north africa and middle east. Thanks to christianity and islam in middle east - it spread worldwide.

Communities that were sedentary didn't need that. Obviously there were other aspect - loaded into it - like training and all that - but ultimately everyone was aware the main function of FGM - is to control women sexual desires. Just like we castrate bulls to fatten and make them stronger. I remember in our place the uncircumsced bulls were very lazy and dirt - side effect of being over-sexed and spending all the day trying to impress cows doing all stunts in the mud . Uncastrated bulls would always be all over female cows, smelling their urine, smelling the air for any hint of a cow on heat, rolling, fighting other bulls, knocking down calfs who get near their mother, and doing all crazy stuff - while castrated bulls were always clean and serious . Nearly everyone kept strictly one - otherwise two uncastrated bulls - were too much. The mzungu didn't bring bull or goat castration - it was always there - people long studied these things - it was just not documented. For men - I say hygiene was important.

Humans are over-sexed animal. Some stats says human spend nearly 1/3 of their lifes thinking sex . And yet for cattle - its okay to castrate them - but for humans - NOPE.

Anyway this came up on my bbc news this morning and I was mortified ..in my village most non protestant girls are cut. So here on nitrate I can smell a cut person from their religion

Coz you learnt from Dorobos. Only Kenya bantus or bantu living near kalenjin or somalis or northern cushitic cut.
I believe Kikuyu f or mgm doesn't date many years.
Kalenjin dates 2,000 yrs plus...
Kalenjin insisted that communities that wanted to be friendly had to cut.
So you'll find in say Luhyas - only those near and friendly to kalenjin accepted.
Otherwise most bantus don't cut.

You point out grand infrastructure is an avenue for massive plunder, his answer, meh, the big shots need 10% cut if you want to build dams, plus public budgets are one of the few ways to enrich yourself. Pundit is right. Is ruto effective as said by pundit. I believe he is not. He is effective in pursuing individual goals but he is not an effective manager. He seems to send signals that result into anarchy and despondency. There is volumes of his failings in areas he has managed in the 4 years of jubilee first term. Uhuru is an effective delegator with very poor follow up. Raila he is not effective at all. He is a good political mobilizer..but a poor leader. He could use an effective pm of muthaura and kinyua caliber

Bottomline i would get raila as PM and someone else effective as ceremonial president. Rruto would official opposition leader
