Keroche will not go down. Imagine if such a scenario had happened under a non Kikuyu president. Mt Kenya would be full of siege mentality.

Best is for the two parties to agree out of court. KRA will not win if Keroche goes under. More people without employment, less taxes and one big Kenyan company less in the scene. Not a good role model for future local enterpreneurs.

It will be a shame to see local owned companies like her go down - KRA should not be allowed to wake up and demand backdated taxes. If they slept on the job - they can wake up and start now - and forget about the future.

KRA should just admit it made omissions in the past and maybe its officers were bribed to look the other way. So now it is about both sides saving face and get out of the mess to the good of both parties.

When someone loses a job and he/she has family to feed, I dont care what political entity they espouse. They cant feed their family.
Seems like rules were not clear, so Give the firm time to negotiate to pay. Everyone comes out clean.

Most likely there were bribes. Tax evasion has been there for years enabled by dirty Zakayos. Thought I read somewhere Keroche obtained a restraining order - same as the Fairmont bloke Humphrey Kariuki.

Generally even the IRS here is equally or more vengeful when they discover cheating. Zakayo is brutal since BC.

KRA is simply unreasonable. Even the manner in which they calculated Keroche taxes is full of malice. I hope Keroche get a fair Judge and the whole case would crumble. Yes, negotiating with KRA would be the better way out but how do you negotiate with someone out to literally finish you?

In brief powerful forces are behind Keroche troubles. The Kenyattas have been trying to get a share of it to no avail. East African Breweries have been known to play dirty. And even other forces have tried to buy Keroche or at least have share of it. This led Keroche and Kariuki fella to start funding alternative leadership in Mt. Kenya alongside Karanja Kabage (now deceased) and that attracted all manners of enemies. And this is where RAO BBI can arbitrate but even himself has been mentioned to have an interest in acquiring a share.

In the end, Keroche will have to buy "political protection" for it is such a lucrative asset for hyenas not to salivate over. That is the sad reality...

It is very difficult to reason with government mafia. They literally want you to work your ass off and built something then they appear and demand huge share without even investing anything. It's Al Capone world.

Only those who comply like Safaricom and am very sure Equity survive and prosper. Keroche should have given a big politician even 2% of its shares at a small fee and it would today have less problems.

Yes - those who have strong political backing - or have gov ownership survives. They need to dole out 2% to top 3-4 politicians and they will be fine. In Kenyatta and Moi era- it was mandatory to have mois, njonjos, ndegwas, etc on board to survive. Sort of protection fee. For now I'd give top cats - Uhuru-Ruto-Raila - 2-5% each - they are probably willing to wash their money in them anyway- so it won't be free shareholding - and with 15% ownership - Keroch near future will be secured.

This 5-10% applies to everything in Kenya - both public and private - from tendering to ownership to jobs. Starting right from Mungiki at every matatu stage to chief mungiki in statehouse - the extortion and bribing and rent-seeking system is well established.

In case you missed it, since Handshake RAO is has been Mr. FixIt. Bwana Dawa. You make a deal with RAO and soon thereafter a call from the House on the Hill will be waiting. Of course, RAO also demand something for himself and support for his political schemes.
Maybe that is why Uhunye is adding on weight; he just sits and his brother brings goodies.

The crackdown on tax evasion is part of the war on corruption. I only disagree with the Magufuli approach. Otherwise these businesses colluded with dirty KRA officers over the years. They are not innocent or even targeted for political reasons. Garliv you are another Alai seeing ghosts everywhere.

Longterm Kenya will benefit big from crashing these graft lords.
