Reagan's Racism
« on: August 01, 2019, 04:21:41 PM »
He kept it wll hidden.  But in recorded conversation with Nixon, he refers to African diplomats at the UN as monkeys.  For Republicans, racism is a feature, not a bug.  That said, it seems like Dubya was the exception to this rule.

Why do u think he's lying, Robina? I believe pastor here. I've met these online 'Christians' too; the 'devout' people who feel nothing when cops shoot unarmed black men or DACA people are deported or threatened with deportation. I believe this completely.

What about dixie democrats? Robert byrd was a member of KKK a democrat, you can't  be more racist than that. Yet republicans are the racist. Even JFK there are tapes of him being racist. It was the time, just like even obama was against gay marriage and  now he's full blown advocate for it. Just because conservatives don't pamper blacks doesn't mean they are racist. Hell the liberals who make excuses for black are the racist if anything. Just my thoughts lol.

Yep, Byrd was a Democrat.  And yes, KKK was founded by Democrats.  If one wants a simplistic take on history, that tells us all we need to know about Democrats today and that is where it should end.

The reality is more complicated.  Most of the areas we now consider red states and counties, just so happened to also be Democrat during that period when Democrats were associated with these racist things.  It's not a coincidence that those same areas are today solid Republican states harboring the worst of the lot.

There were racists on both sides, granted.  But the point I am making is the Republican of 2019 was more than likely to have been a Democrat in the 70s and even early 90s in some areas.  There was a shift, in the late 60s and 70s that effectively flipped the parties(or at least their membership).  Byrd is just an artifact from this period.

Conservatives do not pamper blacks, I agree.  That, at least in the US, seems to be the only consistent thing about them.  Everything else, including economic views that flip flop, is just a cover story for their anti-black animus.

Once you learn who these people are it is possible to lose your faith in humanity.  The US civil war never quite ended.  They lost on the battle field and just moved it into other arenas where they continue to prosecute it.

Asante kadame,
I went there to debate Calvinism vs Arminianism but I got drawn to politics. They have no kind words for Obama, they come very close to labeling him a monkey who sold out the US because he is not a true American and so forth

Everyone is racist to some degree. The worst racism I've ever experienced were in Kenya. Kept shouting Jackie Chan at me and singling me out. Attacked me to see if I can do karate moves. Pretty awful. Embarrassed to admit there were more than a few occasions where some white guy or Arab guy would come to my rescue, never a Luo or Kikuyu or any other African Kenyan, they'd just walk by like it was normal even when I was screaming.

I recall when I was being mugged I ran into the traffic and not a single car stopped for 20 minutes. A car that eventually stopped was a police officer who was annoyed at me and refused to drive me to the police station to report the matter and insisted he just drop me off at the bus stop.

Illegal wiretap which makes this a thought crime. Legally his record is off the hook. Politically this was a Rethug in the 80s seriously - am sure a tape of say Maggy Thatcher would be equally shocking. Those who adore Reagan - conservatives - mostly won't be bothered. Even a certified liberal like Joe Buden has a dubious history with race.
