All your theories and attempts at reading minds are thoroughly far-fetched. In a country as religious as Kenya, the decision to narrow down one man's attitude towards religion to exactly one religious person without so much as a hint in that comment suggesting it has any connection with that one or any particular religious person is projection per excellence. You're literally inventing stuff.

Many Africans are. Even if they don't follow the rules in their lives, they like to talk about God, pray, go to church etc. Lots of people. I realized the stark contrast with the West. Africans are actually very religious people. Being an atheist is a strange concept in Africa. They know about it but most people don't expect people they know in the flesh to straightup deny God. I find it the opposite over here. You kinda have to keep your religion to yourself, can't be casually mentioning God etc.

I have an Igbo friend who talks about God like he is literally sitting next to me on the couch.  It's futile trying to go against that level of belief.  Naijas are pretty wild in that sense.  They have no qualms mixing their animism with Christianity.

I believe economic success in a country is a by-product of a religious and well organized society, starting at family level. But Ndii with his half-baked cooked propaganda now says lack of religion and LGBT is what leads society to economic success.
