On College Degrees: Do They Matter?
« on: September 16, 2014, 08:59:45 PM »
David Tovar, Wal-Mart's (WMT) vice president of corporate communications, is leaving the retail giant after a background check revealed he hadn't finished his college degree.

Tovar is far from the first person to get tripped up by similar oversights. Scott Thompson left his post as Yahoo's (YHOO) CEO after Third Point's Daniel Loeb discovered Thompson had only earned an accounting degree from Stonehill College-rather than one in computer science as well.

In the 2006, RadioShack's (RSH) then-chief executive David Edmondson resigned after it was revealed he lacked a college degree but had claimed he earned two.

While I dont condone deceit by any means, I dont see why all three individuals should resign because obviously they have the brains to run such huge cooperation's effectively. If all that is lacking is that college degree, they should just register for classess like most people and pursue it on the side. I felt the same way about that TV personality in Kenya who lost her job after she had lied about a collge degree from NY. She was good, even better than her other TV personalities and I thought having been that brave to even go that far, she should have had another chance. There are a lot of college graduates who make lousy workers and one even wonders if they ever went to school.
