Long overdue - GoK now to fund private universities.

This need to be cascade throughout - gov should pay "capitation" for any service - and let people choose where they'll get the service - be it health or education or even roads.

Yup, big milestone. 10K students now, 20K next year. We should have state- sponsorship (cheap loans) for all tertiary institutions - including non-uni colleges. After that make tertiary enrollment after Form 4 mandatory.

This is really good. I hope they expand the service to primary and secondary schools in form of vouchers. The government spends loads of money on education that money is channelled through the monolithic public schools. In rural areas it would be incredibly revolutionary if the poor kids can get the option to attend  private schools which generally are run better than public primary schools.

Exactly. And it better private schools offering better education for the price that gov pays will offer better education. And with less corruption than now when schools inflate school attendance so get money to enrich themselves.Gov should try as much as possible to cost every service per citizen/need and wire or m-pesa the money to the facility that citizen chooses. This state sponsorship and HELB loan should be available to every student who get admitted to a college or a universities.

Although we are spending way too much on education....this remain a prudent investment on the future. That is the only thing we got. The future.

I am glad you have now seen the light. The last time I suggested that the government was discriminating against its citizens by refusing to fund those who enter private institutions you opposed my stance.

I have to this day never understood why students who attend private institutions from primary schools to universities do not get the same tax payer funded subsidies those attending Government institutions do. Subsidies are given to the student NOT the school. The money should follow the student. Any shortfalls arising from higher costs in private schools should then be borne by the student.

In essence however, I found out that private schools cost LESS than public schools. In time we shall find that Private universities will cost equally less than those corrupt public edifices.

The fees charged in public schools for example is almost the same as what private schools take. However add the subsidies provided by the state in form of CASH, Books, Equipment and Personnel and you find that we should get rid of these schools if they can't be run less wastefully.

This need to be cascade throughout - gov should pay "capitation" for any service - and let people choose where they'll get the service - be it health or education or even roads.

They are not funding them, just giving students more choice with their money.
