It can be bewildering when one reads of Matemu sending someone home over integrity issues.  EACC is a bad joke.

It looks like they can now monitor progress of files of cases reported to them.  One can be forgiven for wondering out loud, what the hell they have they been doing all these years.

It went horribly wrong from the get go..Matemu with integrity issues himself...killed EACC. But we know without political will from executive and parliament...anti-corruption will remain non-issue.

Like I said here before, the pattern and rhythm must be maintained. Here is how:

1. Moi appoints a know drug dealer to  head KACA - Predictable outcome
2. Ringera appointed - a well known corrupt judge. Another judghe declares his body illegal
3. Ringera comes back - He resumes taking protection cash from the corrupt. Builds one of the biggest houses in Kenya (Ongata Rongai). He irks some MPs and powerful people, he is sent home. Cases he had started die as the new body is not recognized as having inherited the cases
4. P.L.O Lumumba appointed after cutting a deal negotiated by Moi. Everyone knows it is a matter of when not if he will go. He irritates Mbarire, Ngilu and later Orengo. Orengo and the House business committee speed up the formation of a new body under the new katiba. They add an anti-Lumumba clause that he reapply for the job. He goes home rather than try the impossible
5. New body. A man with heavy baggage is appointed. Challenged in the High court successfully (Mumbi Ngugi). Court of appeal in its usual turf wars reinstates him. Matter goes to Supreme Court where media gives a blackout - thanks to Shollei whose wife is in trouble

Its time for a change of guard ...again

It can be bewildering when one reads of Matemu sending someone home over integrity issues.  EACC is a bad joke.

EACC dead?
Must be a bad joke. For one to die, one has to have lived. EACC has never lived and was a stillbirth from day one.

BTW unless Matemu acted alone without the rest of the Commission, the action by the Secretary amounts to insubordination. That in turn if proven leaves him susceptible to disciplinary measures which include being fired.

Whichever way you look at it, as Pundit concluded it is dead. Matemu is most likely going home if the Supreme Court continues to side with the High Court against the Court of Appeal as it has done in the past.

Meanwhile parliament's PAC which in 90s was doing a lot of corruption shaming, documenting and naming is equally in shable for eating too brazenly.

Best time for the corrupt.

The only hope is the competition to eat is now intense...so if one company inflate by X...another will rush to court to stop the contract.

It's a game that goes much higher than mere squabbles. We are witnessing the commission dancing to the Swan Song:

Why is Uhuru with all inherited billions soiling his regime by allowing graft. I think he has a rare chance to deal corruption a blow because he is very strong politically (at least in GEMA) and only has to worry about Ruto (and his ilk) prosperity for deals. If Uhuru declare war against graft starting from his friends and support base in GEMA..where is support is unassailable..it will be easy to reign on the rest...where he'll have to balance political risks.

I think corruption is too ingrained in the affairs of state in Kenya.  Too many vested interests, including his own supporters.  Equally affecting both opposition and the ruling party.  There was a time one could almost point to a leader or two that were clean or nearly so.

If you show signs of seriously clamping down, both sides will probably get rid of you.

Because he is directly profiting from graft like in the case of SGR. Once the top guy deeps his hands in the cookie jar those around him follow and the cancer spreads to all corners of the country.
As to Uhuru fighting graft, the game is over even before it begann.

Why is Uhuru with all inherited billions soiling his regime by allowing graft.

apart from fact that we don't understand/hard to connect the dots on costs of corruption on public systems -education, health, infrastructure, security- the other main reason why majority of kenyans ain't really bothered about corruption is fact that majority do not pay taxes which pinch ...except VAT, licences, mandatory fees only about 2 million pay income taxes

I think low level corruption esp at traffic or police level can be reduced if we made payment of fines hassle free and less expensive...and we can do that easily by allowing instant fines paid through M-pesa. For gov services...i think these have reduced...at least i do not hear someone demanding bribe to give out ID cards..or such gov services anymore.

The big time corruption....more competition for tenders, appeals to procurement boards and court cases..will eventually sort those.

Back in 2012:

"constitutional court Wednesday nullified the appointment of Mumo Matemu as chairman of the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission. .... Three judges upheld a petition by human rights group Trusted Society of Human Rights Alliance that Mr Matemu suffered serious integrity issues making him unsuitable to head the anti-graft body."
