He is the king of human rights. The Kondele people and anyone who has been an innocent bystander when police and goons were going at each other's throats will likely get compensation.

I take this opportunity to unreservedly thank H.E President William Ruto for establishing a framework for the compensation of victims of protests and riots, and for appointing me to head it.  This bold, unprecedented, and historic action by President Ruto is transformational for Kenya’s human rights culture.   Visionary leaders seize historic opportunities, as President Ruto has done.  This action is unique in Africa and around the globe.  I have taught, written, fought for, lectured on, and practiced the law of transitional justice for close to three decades and I never thought such a pioneering action would occur in Kenya in my lifetime.  I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the Rt Hon Raila Odinga for walking this journey with the President.   I am humbled and honored that H.E President Ruto has bestowed upon me this awesome responsibility.  I promise him and the country that we will rise to the challenge.  Aluta continua!

Most people in the US, I would argue 95%, cannot feel the impact of what Trump is doing. People are so busy working, doing business, and hustling. The private sector is a well-oiled machine, but besides that, there are robust state, county, and local systems that makes Federal changes unfelt by the masses. The court system always reverses insane changes, or as soon as the next president comes, changes made by executive pen end  the same week by another executive pen, that is why it is hard to overhaul US systems.  If you ask me, change Bush 1&2, Obama 1&2 , Trump 1, Biden, and Trump 2 as a civilian, and I can tell you no change. The US economy and systems are so robust; your ability, brain, and sobriety are all that make the difference!

Mutua as a lawyer in the past didn't properly know that changing people's fortune is the mother of all human rights. There is no human in Kenya who has lifted the lives of millions of Kenyans from the bottom and the brink like William Samoei Ruto.  The few things you see in public, multiply by 1000 because I have seen his deeds up close from the early 1990s. He has helped widows and students' educations and built schools and churches. He has consistently raised money for Boda Bodas, women groups, and youth groups;  donated clothing and food to children's homes; and built dispensaries and health clinics. He has helped thousands of people in my village for decades, whether individually or collectively.  His work and generosity are just on another level. Someone who has helped so many people in a span of 30 years deserves respect and admiration. There was a year, I think 2001-2003 where he paid fees for all children in Turbo constituency. Families were happy!

President William Ruto's proclamation on compensation for victims of public protests and demonstrations might have sounded, at first glance, like the greatest thing since sliced bread, at least in the life of this regime.

But the devil is in the details, or lack thereof. The first question one might ask is whether the government wants to compensate those it terms as terrorists, and on that basis justifies extreme measures including abduction, torture, illegal confinement, enforced disappearances and extra-judicial executions.
