Muhuroni Sugar Mills leased to Ben Soi
« on: May 21, 2025, 10:50:28 AM »
It seems the Kenya gov. dished the sugar factory to a Johnny come lately clansman.

The tender documents for the leasing of the sugar factories state:

1. The bidder should have at least 5 year experience in sugar milling. Soi's company was registered in 2023.
2. An annual turnover of at least 5B Ksh in the past 3 years. With a capacity of 1,250 tonnes per day Soi's factory does not have such a turnover.

Now I understand why there is a lot of resistance to the leasing of the state sugar factories in western Kenya.

Privatizing these corporations to able Africans is better than outsiders like Indians. Ben Soi is a lethal manager and owner of the West Valley Sugar company and many other businesses that thrive compared to peers. I think he will turn around Muhoroni in record speeds given a chance will less politics. Muhoroni needs an investor who has a diverse portfolio to implement a risk management plan. You don't want a big Kahuna with one egg in the basket. Risky business like Sugar entity needs someone like Ben Soi to keep it running!
Quote
Mr Soi says Kenya’s newest sugar miller has been constructed in collaboration with sugar cane farmers in Kericho and its surrounding catchment zones. “The opening of a sugar factory brings about not only economic advantages but also technological progress, environmental considerations and community development,” he added. “It represents a promising step towards a more sustainable and prosperous future for the region.”

Indeed, Kipchimchim Group is a force to reckon with. Though it has remained low-profile at its base in Kericho, it controls businesses whose value could easily run into hundreds of billions of Kenya shillings.  It is a diverse, multi-sectoral corporation that engages in business locally and abroad. It has over 20 companies under its helm and currently with more than 4,500 direct employees. The Group has invested in various sectors including agriculture, manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, real estate, retail and wholesale industries.
The future belongs to those who have a quarter of the character and integrity of RV Heavy Hitter!

This kind of NONSENSE JAINDI KISERO excels in.

The tender document is clear, and evaluation is clear.

If West Valley had 2yrs - they got 4 marks in that section.

KIPCHIMCHIM group is doing great - running nearly 10 tea factories, west valley sugar, build another in Soit (near ready) kilgoris and 15 supermarkets and wholesales - plus other things.

Those guys are serious.
