The Anger in Kenya...
« on: November 10, 2024, 07:16:03 AM »
Trumps win has taught all of us that twitter is the place where the real news is coming from today. Traditional media is done. Twitter gives everyone a space to express themselves freely and without fear and because of this, it has become the global eco chamber of what's happening.

So, I've been paying attention to what kenyans are saying on twitter and now also to what americans are saying on twitter, but I'll leave america alone for now because America will be fine (it's not a poor, 3rd world country that can explode at any minute) but kenya is a different story and the things kenyans are saying on twitter are concerning:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">There is a collective anger in Kenya, among Kenyans from all walks of life. It’s almost palpable.</p>&mdash; Dr. Mercy Korir (@DrMercyKorir) <a href="?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">November 7, 2024</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

US is middle class
Middle class are in social media
Kenya is poor country
The real anger is when people shout NJAA UNGA
We have middle class anger
Predictable - as Ruto gov is for hustlers/bottom guys
Middle class - tiny - in Kenya makes most of noises in X.
Facebook/Titktok is more tame.

Hasoras elected ruto to lighten the burden and save the economic collapse which had been going down since 2015 but things are haywire except for unga.

The salaried, who were okay with corruption-led inflation lifestyles, are being hit hard as they are the most accessible. It is not sensible that rents in all urban areas average 5,000 for a bedsitter to 20,000 for a two-bedroom house from Mombasa to the shadiest urban centre. With no one to pay for bribes and no tender monies, the pain is getting unbearable and given they have a voice, it is loud.

In a way it is a very good thing as this group has been shaming hasoras for crying to 'the government' to work - they are the teachers, doctors, immigration, and police (most are the landlords). As Ndii puts it, they will squeal as more pressure piles on their payslips and bribes end as hasoras have also reached a dead end on the cost of education, health and public services where they were rent seeking plus technology is making it rare.

Once they net the hasoras through Mpesa transactions that is when the explosion will be.

The structure of Kenya is such that even the president has hasora dependants who are wailing for unga. Sembuse teachers, doctors, police and such like Kenyan middle class.

Apart from salaried people
Nobody in Kenya is wailing like 2yrs ago when cost of living was HIGH
Inflation is low.
Unga is cheap, sugar is next, cooking oil, then transport (even with petrol - no fare increase - I see matatus gone to pre-michuki days where squeeze passengers), even eggs is down to 15 bob.
In rural areas people are joining SHA/SHIF in great numbers - my village everyone is getting enrolled - had to release quarry workers for them to travel to homes to get enrolled.
In rural areas people appreciate fertilize subsidy - from 7000 to 2500.
So Ruto/Ndii have suceeded in Bottom Up Economics.
There is no GENUINE anger in Lower Class that is absent tribal sentiments (like current kikuyu or kamba nation).

What we have as ANGER - is  Kikuyu-Kambas & diehard Azimio (was always 50% of kenya) - and then a few middle class who are getting hit on SHIF/NSSF/Housing Levy.

For poor workers like watchmen/p1 teachers/majority low cadre stuff - most are spared from these things - they pay even less for SHIF than they did NHIF.

With NHIF - everyone employed was paying 1700 per month or something - which for watchman grossing salary of 17000 - was whopping 10% of their salary. Now with 2.75% - they are paying 400.

Ruto salary raiding is affecting middle class - who have joined hands with  Azimio (mostly kikuyus-Kambas) in crying about Ruto. The Luo wing are slowly converting to be pro-Gov/pro-Ruto

In short the anger is really only genuine amongst some of middle class. But Ruto doesnt care - they have few votes.

The structure of Kenya is such that even the president has hasora dependants who are wailing for unga. Sembuse teachers, doctors, police and such like Kenyan middle class.

The mean testing is rating them rich as they own houses and cows. They wailed over university banding and now once SHIF mean testing results are out they will squeal also.

They need to work on the algorithm and rank.
I did mean testing - they got me at 3,500 - a month - 42k a year.
I hope they got the mean testing - customized for different regions
Someone owning 1 cow in Maasai land is poor - ok in Kiambu

The mean testing is rating them rich as they own houses and cows. They wailed over university banding and now once SHIF mean testing results are out they will squeal also.
