I think it's a more fundamental problem than just women.  There is an asymmetry in how they treat Democratic and Republican candidates, but it has become more pronounced over the last decade.  Biden won because Trump had totally screwed up and even then barely(in the EC).  I don't think Biden would have done better than Harris this time round and they would have found any number of reasons to reject him.  But like most things American, you will be eternally perplexed if you ignore just how ingrained racial animus is in this country.
