How about importing men from Luhyaland, Luoland and Kisii to literally comb the area  :D for, say, a month? The aftermath will be fruitful. Waititu was on the verge of winning this war as Kiambu governor. What happened?

Catharsis. With crazy taxation and a collapsed unproductive economy, toxic potable alcohol is the only option for millions of poor people.

Economy and poverty can be there, like it was in the 80s and 90s, but folks should not indulge in drugs and alcoholism. Those are personal choices that brings the society down whether economy is thriving or not. If Ruto-Gachagua administration can suppress this menace considerably, economy will grow alone by 2%

People indulge in drugs when there is no hope to numb that pain and euthanize.

Agreed.
I reject the poverty argument.
Gov should enforce serious drug control - and make it a little hard to buy cheap alcohol.
I think Kuria proposal to heavily tax alcohol - is way to go.
Problem is cheap liquor - with 100shs - they buy dangerous stuff that knock them out.
Sin tax is one cheapest way to finish the problem.
Betting has reduced by half when heavy taxes were introduced.
Miraa also need to be declared a drug - even if merus will complain.

Problem in Mt kenya and RV is the proliferation of cheap dangerous liquor.

Make alcohol so expensive it become a luxury - otherwise arresting them - doesnt solve the problem.

The poor can go back to drinking busaa and changaa - which are not as dangerous as all these cheap ethanol poisions.

And slowly it easy to crackdown on changaa and busaaa.

Eventually alcohol will become a luxury item for the rich  and the responsible.

Nothing but the truth , unlike other parts of Kenya the kind of drinks sold in Mt Kenya is pure mixed Methanol very addictive and renders one useless minutes upon drinking . If they were still strinking Muratina which is not potent thats fine just like other parts drink their Mnazi , Busaa and changaa.

They should start by doing away with these fake companies which claim they brew alchohol .

Agreed.

You cannot wish away the economic aspect. People who will have to wake up early to go to work will leave drinking dens early and get into them late, save a few exceptions like ufool. Underemployment is a key driver of ulevi in urban and peri urban settings.

Hakuna. Muratina by the time Moi was taking over had made the wazees all over Central useless. The crackdown eased when they allowed sijui off license bars and masandukuni.

A broke govt has to have priorities right not playing god. What is the majority after- cheap unga- cheap electricity - education- health- roads-dams. Focus on that.

There will always be a few extremists in any society. Hii ni kupea overstretched police and low morale civil servants presha ya bure with no clear outcomes.

Cigarettes smoking has gone down due to excessive taxes.Gov should only allow cheap beer but spirits must attract such fines as heavy as possible. Let poor drink breweries Keg beer..modern busaa or mutating. The cheap ethanol sugarcane poison should be taxed so much.Poor drink as it deliver potency cheaply and quickly. REMOVE THE CHEAP N LET THEM DRINK KEG.Now that shiet is sold for 50bob n knock you out in minutes.Sin tax is most effective way to deal with problem...just make sure those patialas retail minimum 300shs..while keg beer sell for cheap

Only reason western n luo nyanza don't have alcohol problem is because they drink busaa as it not illegal and is widely brewed. What has killed mt kenya and kalenjin is 50bob poison being sold by z Gouts n Hk here..who are in that business. Raila is key player as molasses is main source of this poison..

Moi crackdown on Busaa n Muratina but soon that space was filled by cheap dangerous sugar byproducts. Now solution is allow more KEG or modern busaa...discourage cheap spirits

Those spirits must be bad news. We had a teacher in our village that was addicted to spirits. I heard, he drunk, passed out within minutes, and fell on a kerosine lamp. Kerosine leaked and burned his head/hair and died minutes later in his living room. I don't know what is on those things that make someone pass out completely that can't even rescue himself!

Imagine that happen daily to millions..those spirits they take in a flush...knock you unconscious immediately..the deterioration is scary..beer is not a problem as it digested...spirits enter blood stream immediately

:D :D I am not in cheap alcohol business, we  make coffee liqueur that we sell in our coffee shop though. Our family has been in bar business even before I was born, so yes I am conversant with alcohol business.
The problem is regulations of ethanol, taxation and low incomes. Then there's mutotho law that has encouraged "hoarding", where drinkers buy and carry home drinks that they consume in the morning which renders them useless(And that's how addiction starts). Keg would be the solution however a normal drinker would consume 4 cups which is a bout 240 and for now that's a little too expensive for "hasoras".
