Good idea is to decouple KPLC and REA - REA to do last mile - might have to completely seperate REA from KPLC.

Small term solution is importation cheaper than the diesel power plants.
Longterm solution mine the coal in Ukambani and use it to generate energy.
Kenya is a third world country but using green energy to sustain its energy needs . To industralize Kenya needs to go coal full blaze.

Easiest thing to do is make a policy that no more than 30% energy use from any energy source by all governments and big business.

You guys are still dreaming of coal and the Lamu coal plant was dropped like a hot potato. Coal plants are no longer being built apart from in China. The financing of coal plants is proving  with no banks willing to foot the laon. Even insurance comapanies are not ready to take the cover for coal plants.

The energy crisis in Kenya today is the pricing of the electricity and the poor state of distribution. Kenya at the moment produces more electricity than it can consume. The future is green energy and not coal or nuclear plants.

Exactly.
We cant do coal.
Solar is the future for many places in Kenya with our adequate sun - in earthquathor.
How to get out of expensive thermal plants is our biggest problem cost wise.
And still we have not done 100% universal electricity coverage.
I would hope Ruto will address cost while working through universal access.

For manufacturers - I would go the SEZ route - build solar plants around there - and make them run on their own without gov involvement.
