Raymond Moi is lying. Moi cannot give anyone a scrap car that you must park and push on the hill to start. Ruto got his first 504 station wagon from my uncle. We used to push that thing in hopes of getting 20 shillings from sly DP. When he was broke, which was most of the time, he'd usually pack his clothes and everything and instructed us to push it. He'd take off as soon as it started, leaving us in the dust or mud during the August season. Of course, he would come and apologize a few months later when he returned from Nairobi and the push starts again, only that this time we were smart not to fall on the ground and "Bar talamwet" as he used say!

LOL. I can relate. My father owned VW in 70s & 80s until 90s when he upgraded to Datsun. VW was mostly in garage - the engine would be carried to the house until - Mechanic Omondi came from Kericho - slept for two days at home fixing it. My father had Yamaha to use those days when VW was dead. In 1990s - he fooled some althete - sold him land for nearly a million - princely sum - and upgraded to Datsun - for 120k That was mostly functional -

504 peuguot was a dream car in our place - driven by Tea Estate Managers. That was dream job for many of us. It still is a dream job - because of the priveleges the mzungu gave those managers.
