His competitor Chris Wamalwa of Ford Kenya came in second with 79,020 votes.

I have a distant family in the Cherangany area. I don't know whether his analysis is accurate. He claims that there was widespread propaganda in the villages that Natembeya was not fully Luhya but had Kalenjin blood. A lot of Kalenjins voted for him over Wamalwa. I doubt it is true but in politics, politicians create propaganda easily to win. He also had the backing of Kipruto Kirwa who is a respected Elder in Trans Nzoia! I think that made him cross the line. All he needed was a few thousand Kales votes.
