Too many good memories from this one. Dec 2010 Krisi in Kenya for the month! Reminds me very much of Tamasha, Hurlingham. Packed crowd, lots of summer bunnies there, pretty chicks getting down on the dancefloor. The funny thing is visiting Kwiinya for a month or two a year vs living here permanently are too completely different things. Especially if you've lived abroad for over ten years. When I look back at those good times it was like living in suspended reality. Stuck between two worlds and wanting to keep both. Unfortunately life doesn't work that way. You have to choose! By the way I wonder if Tamasha is still open? They also used to have very nice live music. Just like Rafikiz in Lang'ata! I went to Electric Avenue in Westie some time back and it was depressing to see all those clubs of that era - Bacchus, Rezorous, Changes etc all gone! Electric Avenue used to BUMP HARD back then. And what I loved best about Nai back then was that it wasn't odd to bump into an old high schoo classmate or friend you grew up with while on the avenue on a Friday night!
Wazee hukumbuka. Amazing memories for me
You are right about suspended reality. If you are in majuu, better pursue life abroad and assimilate fully and travel to your home country as a tourist from time to time. I have seen many folks try to live on both sides and end up not making strides in either world.
Madtraxx have talent, but like other Arbantone/Genge artists, they are not taking talent seriously enough to stay in the game 30+ years like global peers. You hear them churn out one hit for a few years, and the next thing you know, they are nowhere. Gengeera ruled by Grandpa records with artists like Kenkrazy, Visita, Madraxx, DNA et al. managed 10 years of consistency before going sideways
. Arbanton genre, under new catslike kina Cody Tennor, SoundkraftBreeder LW et al., seems like it will not last a decade with consistency.
. Not a party animal or clubber, ut I listen to countless tracks walking daily. Genge and Arbanton you can finish all with 100 miles of walk weekly. Congo boys can stay on game for 30+ years and build a loyal customer and business base, which our Kenyans artists should learn. Music is not for fun but a business venture/brand that should last 40+ years. Koffi Olomide doing Tchatcho in the 80s is still the top brand in 2025 cranking refined ndombolo every other week!
. Dr Sakis, I think has been on the game for 40+ years and still fit like a fiddle still rocking bars and clubs around the world! Not a valid youtube URL[/youtube]
