That was fabulous, wasn't it? Mary Keitany and Jemimah Songoh (both Kenyan) were neck and neck mpaka last few hundred meters or so. But the zinger was the Mens. Waaaah? The Kenyan was in full form, all the comentators were rooting for the Ethiopian World no. 1, but boy he didn't see it coming. In the end (last 150 metres), it was no competition at all! Our young man is taking away a cool 500,000 USD. plus the 100,000 USD for today. Well done, Kipsang! That was quite inspiring to watch!!

That problem inside Kenya has become more and more public. A German documentary leading up to the London Olympics reported high usage of performance-enhancing drugs at high-altitude camps in the East African nation. An IAAF list of athletes caught doping from January of 2012, to January of 2013 included 13 Kenyans.

Rita Jeptoo, considered the top female marathon runner, has won the last two Boston Marathons.
The IAAF has increased its out-of-competition testing, which has led to more positives. This is obviously important in cleaning up the grueling sport, but marathon organizers now face the same scrutiny and cynicism still aimed at cycling events.

The marathon was also taking place at the same time. I recorded it and then, went to watch it alone (without knowing the results).

She is the second fastest gal after the world record holder. Seh broke Ndereba's Kenyan record which was itself a world record.

Next year, she'll be baad.

Jemimah Sumgong, a Berardelli athlete who also tested positive after finishing second in Boston a few years ago is our next hope. At 30, she has another four years or so.

She was banned for 2 years but then then her ban was rescinded. It was accepted by the IAAF.

I'll talk about Kipsang for a minute but let me talk about my friend Rita.

I was very devastated on Friday after learning of the news.

I have no idea why that happened and my reasonin g is simple;

Seh had been slated to visit New York today to receive her $500,000 cheque for winning the WMM.

She won it after winning Chicago on Oct. 12.

Now, she tested positive for an out of ocmpetition drug test conducted on Sept. 25, about 17 days before her chicago race.

Her races for the two year period that one needs to be considered for the WMM, and the ones that counted for her WMM for the last two years  were Boston and Chicago.

She won Boston and Chicago in 2013.

she also won Boston this year by breaking Okayo's 2003 course record in a crazy fashion where she destroyed the Ethiopian opponent.

Then, last month she won Chicago, but seh was doped!

Now, all JEPTOO NEEDED TO CLAIM THE WMM TITLE WAS FINISH FIFTH IN CHICAGO!

SHE DIDN'T NEED TO WIN CHICAGO!

So, this begs the question;

why then did she dope?

She cannot lose to any runner who is not Kenyan (Her name sake Priscah Jeptoo and Mary Keitany and probably even Ednah Kiplagat)!

so, why did she dope to win 100,000 prize money, then, risk about $650,000 (150,000 appearance + 500,000 WmM)?

That is the issue that is not making sense to me.

After Dennis Kimetto broke hsi world record, I think he lost it!

Today, he wanted to tell/show/(prove to) the world that he is still around.

Unlike Jeptoo who needed to place fifth in Chicago to win the Worl d Marathon Majors, Kipsang had to win to beat Kimetto.

had he lost to Lelisa Desisa, he'd have lost a cool $500,000.00!

So, that race was a $600,000 (If you include the 100,000 Prize money).

Lelisa Desisa probably only carried $75,000.00 for coming in second!

so, why did Kipsang look at Desisa?

Because, as they were battling, adn as Desisa started overtaking him, he kn0cked him!

In such a race with such stakes, an athlete can bring another down. Kispang had to tell him something (I believe I saw him talk to him).

he wasn't pleading with him to leave it to him. NO WAY!

kENYANS AND ETHIOPIANS CAN NEVER STRIKE A DEAL. WHY SHOULD THEY?

The rivarly between us on track/road is so intense that nothing of the sort can happen.

As one track fan described it, which made me laugh out loud LITERALLY;

"Desisa nudges him on the arm, he looks down like "bitch please you wanna play?" and tears him apart in the last .22!"

In no time, Kipsang had opened a 13 second gap!

Desisa is the guy who won Boston last yaer by the way when the bombing took place. Then, he gave his medal to Boston Marathon.

He is one hell of a marathoner but the masters of the universe live in Rift Valley in Keiyo and iten and Kapsabet and Eldoret!

At least out of Rita Jeptoo's dark cloud came a silver lining in the name of Kipsang.

It looked llike Geoffrey Mutai had an injury. He was limping at the finish line.

Okay ,, sometimes I get away a little bit whenever I talk about the marathon.

There was a time I used to think one can't dope for long distance running.  Yet ultimately it was going to happen due to commercialization.

If you notice, Kenyans have focused almost entirely on the major marathons to the exclusion of Olympics and other events.  Given the stakes and talent pool, it's a matter of time and doping will become a fact if life.

Everybody knows Usain Bolt is a walking pharmacy.  But as long as he is not caught, we can all say he is the greatest ever.

Yep, that's what it looked like to me, per this article. I don't think they whispered to each other at all. I saw the replay again yesterday, I didn't see a convo there. The Ethiopian hit him with his elbow, and Kipsang was caught off guard. The glance was to measure Desisa's speed to see if this was it. He saw this was it and looked ahead, giving it his all. The commentators had me worried, saying Ethiopians have a better final kick and that Kipsang ought to be worried. Personally, I think he was waiting for the Ethiopian to start the final kick, he didn't want to start too early and then be exhausted so he conserved his energy and paced himself against Desisa.

Pole sana about Rita. So sad.  It must be all these new American coaches in Kenya acouting for runners. Coaches are always the ones finding fantastic concoctions for athletes.

A pattern I have observed and am thinking is related to doping.  The winner of a marathon immediately preceding does not win the next one.

In other words, if I win Chicago, I am not going to win New York in order to minimize suspicions.  In some cases they don't even show up for the next one.

Samuel Wanjiru may have been the last clean champion in these races.  He won one, moved onto the next and won again.

It really upon doping agency to ensure they test and test athletes..in and out of competition. They should be able to drop in Eldoret anytime..and demand for blood test.

EPO was found on her..during an out of competition test. Yes some are due to mistake by our quacks dispensing drugs in pharmacies..others are deliberate. Her coaching stable has had many cheats..so am inclined to think she did it.

True rv has alluded that cheating is rampant..he is an insider in althetics.
