Electricity required to charge EVs is generated from fossil fuels. So how is this progress? How is it more eco friendly? I don't get

I will stick to my Sub urbans, Escades EV, and Denalis! I love massive big American SUVs that takes a whole lot of gas!
The future belongs to those who have a quarter of the character and integrity of RV Heavy Hitter!

Drive an EV and you will never go back to a conventionally driven vehicle again.

Who told you so? A country like Norway has 100% of ts electricity only from green energy.
Even Kenya has more than 80% of its electricity generated from green energy. Fossil fuels play a minor role in Kenya especially the diesel generators that are only used due to corruption at KPLC. They are actually unnecessary as Kenya generates more electricity than can be consumed.

I like the Kia EV6.  Once topping up takes less than 15 minutes, I might jump on the bandwagon.

@Arcadian, what if the EV infrastructure is powered only by renewable sources?

Me too. Those Koreans really know their tech.
Tesla is expensive for nothing.

Yep.  South Korea has definitely arrived, over the last few decades, and not just in cars but gadgets and household appliances in general.

Evs are good to make you feel better but the externalities make them as harmful as old combustion engines. Those battery's will end up somewhere dumped. Only way out of this mess is quickly collapse the current civilization and we go back to bipedalism

New techs are coming out all the time, so something else will come up to make them last forever.

This man gets it. We will run out of lithium before EV revolution gets going. Degrowth and human scale arrangement of living are the only viable routes left for humanity.

I cant wait for degrowth. Capitalism need to be defeated and Free Market allowed where innovation to change lives is allowed. However if you are producing chemicals or other SHIT like Industrial farming you are shutdown unless you degrow

I think space is a good spot to dump industrial waste.  And to harvest energy from the stars.  Humongous place.  There is still hope.

SpaceX just launched the first private mission to the International Space Station.

 :D :D

Child like techno optimism, folks need to realize sci-fi is not real.

It is impractical and prohibitively costly to send just 100 Kg of waste to space, let alone all the world's industrial waste to space.

Harvesting energy from the stars is a sci-fi concept popularized by Michio Kaku, we have to get real.

There is no hope of saving industrial society, inevitable contraction has to take place. The future is low tech agrarian society of our forebears. We will be back to wearing barkskins and hunter gathering rather than attaining singularity. The hyper-technological civilization created in the last 200 years was a cosmic one off enabled by fossil fuels. We have reached peak oil, the descent has started.

Of course it is.  Mostly energy related costs and engineering challenges - there is no real science that debunks it.  It's will become cheaper, though, as technologies improve(and new ones come up).
