I think have stated here severally that the balance of power shifted when government disarmed Merus and left neighbouring communities well armed. This would never happen some years ago but Merus are vulnerable coz of this. But not for long those camel herdeds know that's the last time they set foot in Meru generally this also presents a new headache for Merus as the attackers are Believed to be Somalis. Somalis haven't attacked Merus for a very long time them and Samburus had given up on knowing this is futile as payback is usually nasty, they chose to pay Meru farmers to graze on land or employ Turkanas and Boranas who are the remaining ones attacking Merus here and there but on small scales,Somalis can think they will disappear into Wajir without a trace and hence the motivation.
But keep watching news and it will be the other side crying. Normally when enemy kabilas attack Meru border communities they kill indiscriminately this is because they are afraid of being captured by venturing deep and also don't have the ability to hit their preffered targets.

Kenya security is the weakest i know of in this world. In Kenya everywhere there are attacks,Lamu multiple,Elgeyo marakwet,Marsabit,Pokot,Turkana,Laikipia,Isiolo,Samburj and Now Meru etc on a daily basis. Kenya is a weak country security wise best thing like you say is make police local,those police inTigania don't venture out of their police posts,if they were locals they would respond and so on,untill Kenya has cohesive and well trained forces then even curving out a 10 mile border won't help because it needs people enforcing. But Ruto would be much better than Gatheca in security no doubt during Baba Mois time attacks were very rare the police and security forces were very cohesive then no kabila dared attack the other that much the repurcussion were severe from Moi.

Agreed we have a joke of police. We need local police. It will eliminate the need for police reservist because tigania policemen will work with locals to protect themselves. And Yes we need 10 miles border to seperate any of the warring group. The gov can use it to keep wild animals - but it should be fenced - so no way - you can come from Isiolo and cross the border.

Gov should buy it and fence it - that will eliminate border conflict.

Merus are approx 35% Nilotic genetically 10% Cushitic and approx 5-8% of dorobo ogiek admixture rest is bantu stock but this varies southern Meru will have a higher bantu stock than north. At the moment Merus are the weakest military among all north kabilas it take several months or even year to be able to arm accordingly.
