If anything, tolerance for suicide is a more liberal trait.  They tend to have fewer taboos.  Even then, not everything is a simplistic divide between liberal and conservative.

You are right, I'm more of libertarian. On this issue I have seen both sides come out against it. The religious being most vehement against suicide.

A real conservative I guess.  It's not your problem, until it is.

I hope officials in Kenya are now starting to take mental health seriously. I will believe it when I actually see something concrete.

Governors commit to action to improve mental health in Kenya

Don't steal. The Uhuruto Government hates competition.

This is very serious. I agree GoK should forego capex for stimulus. Rail, highway or pipeline can wait.

About suicide, noone is given a choice at birth so why stop them? I believe in euthanasia and not just for terminal illness. Anyone with insurmountable problems should be not only allowed but facilitated to exit in dignity.

Yes stimulus - like last year - asking banks to extends mortgages and loans - or gov to take up some of it. It is not fair to have someone build an entire lifetime of hardwork and see it gone...phew few months and their properties auctioned

Also covid restrictions should be voluntary - we recommend it but if you want to violate it - do it.

It should only protect people in public spaces - by insisting on masks in public - but why restrict movement at night? Why close bars?

This is very serious. I agree GoK should forego capex for stimulus. Rail, highway or pipeline can wait.

Problems come and go. I hope you'd recommend the same to loved ones. Death is permanent. Life situations are temporary. Economic problems go away - people should be encouraged to stay on - to hang in there - and to scrawl out of any hole.

Most importantly people in this century should not die for economic reasons - gov should step in and provide a social safety net.

About suicide, noone is given a choice at birth so why stop them? I believe in euthanasia and not just for terminal illness. Anyone with insurmountable problems should be not only allowed but facilitated to exit in dignity.

That is all good, but you are a privileged middle class Kenyan who doesn't worry about his next meal or physical security. The majority of our compatriots are not so lucky. It is harsh existence out there. I still recall the security guard who committed suicide where I used to work, poor fella's wife gave birth to twins, he was taking ARV's for HIV, subsisting on a meager monthly 2 thousand shilling wage, it was all too much for him. He consumed rodent poison and kicked it. I was numb for weeks, I used to give him money for lunch and fare occasionally, the guy was smiling being jovial as usual the day before, you never know the pain someone is going through inside. I can't mask my feelings, I wear my heart on my sleeves. Existential depression is the worst. You see, while some find meaning in shagging smelly orifices and consuming tipple of questionable provenance others contemplate the utter meaningless of life when confronted by certain basic issues of existence.

The mental health angle is an escapist route. Works well for governments as they are not accountable for economic mess. Or high costs of health, education, transport and all social services -safety nets provisions.

At an individual level, irresponsibility can easily be termed as mental health.
Government, even in its best state, is but a necessary evil; in its worst state, an intolerable one ~ Thomas Paine
