The Rai family soon will run kenya
« on: November 21, 2022, 11:56:09 AM »
The Rai family has extended its dominance in the sugar sector with the opening of the Naitiri factory, which has now pushed its share of sales to nearly half of the entire production.

Data from the Sugar Directorate indicates that the four milling firms owned by billionaire Rai accounted for 45 percent of the total sugar sales in the 10 months to October, up from 42 percent in the corresponding period last year, boosted by the new entrant.

I thought the Hustler regime was out to finish such dynasties? :D

Btw, controlling the sugar production in Kenya is not running Kenya. A lot of sugar is imported, so even controlling 50% of the sugar production is not controlling the sugar market.

Sugar market study is required by Competition Authority Kenya to see if this is good or bad. It sounds bad to me.

Many monopolies in Kenya. We can first start with Safaricom, Brooksides etc.

Problem with sectors like sugar is licensing...for you to import sugar, you need a license, for you to set up a sugar milling plant you need a license...that means tha sector is a monopoly...same thing happens in fuel businesses...inorder to import fuel, same licensing NONSENSE.

Sugar is even worse...if the minister is bribed,He claims there is flooding in the market before your sugar gets to Mombasa port,or even if it makes It,KEBS is activated that the sugar imported is hazardous.

Kenya is a crazy place..the solution is to fully liberalize the sector otherwise RAI is just a broker of GOK operatives..RAI is now Ruto broker,Kenyatta is out.

That's it. No other reason not to liberalize the sector so no I'm curious as to what Ndii has to say on this issue.
