before the election, what options are there for the party or coalition in terms of replacement?

No room or provision for replacement:
before the election, what options are there for the party or coalition in terms of replacement?
138----
(8.) A presidential election shall be cancelled and a new election held if—
(a) no person has been nominated as a candidate before the expiry of the period set for the delivery of nominations;
(b) a candidate for election as President or Deputy President dies on or before the scheduled election date; or
(c) a candidate who would have been entitled to be declared elected as President, dies before being declared elected as President.
(9) A new presidential election under clause (8.) shall be held within sixty days after the date set for the previous presidential election.

Thank you for that helpful info. It looks like if Raila, to pick a perfectly random example, is eliminated, kamwana does not get to sleepwalk back to State House in the same election.

That's legal mumbo-jumbo. :D If a candidate died in Kenya, regardless of how he or she actually died, it would be "obvious" that he or she had been done in by the other side. The bastards!. The most pressing question would be how to control the mayhem from the candidate's supporters. That would probably take more than 60 days.

That too MOON Ki, but we wanted to know what the law says.

The law means something in Kenya? Didn't the President just declare that the law is "acceptable" only as long as those in power are not being "frustrated" and the Judiciary is not being "used" and ...

Yes, Moon Ki, the law does mean something in Kenya and that is why ouru is mad. Ouru likes to act as if he is a wolf in sheep skin but he is realy a sheep in sheep skin. He is playing with fire. Let him subvert the law and see how long he can survive as a dictator. Kibaki knew he was going to lose in 2007 and he knew he was going to steal the elections, but he never threatened or projected his intentions. Now that is a wolf in a sheep skin. Ouru has already projected his intentions and people are taking him very seriously. He will realize very quickly that the law does mean something as soon as he subverts it because the country will explode.
