Title: President Sonko
Post by: Empedocles on October 16, 2016, 03:07:13 PM
Sonko declared himself acting president last week:

Now a sham investigation is taking place:

Quote
Sonko to be investigated for calling himself the acting president (http://nairobinews.nation.co.ke/news/sonko-to-be-investigated-for-calling-himself-the-acting-president/)

Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko will be investigate for calling himself the acting President of the Republic of Kenya.

In a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Joseph Boinett, the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) Mr Keriako Tobiko directed the police and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to investigate the senator over the incident.

My attention has been drawn to a video clip aired by various stations and widely shared on social media platforms, in which Senator Sonko is captured engaging in disruptive conduct and uttering words that he is the acting President of the Republic of Kenya, the DPP’s letter read in part.

As a result, the DPP has directed the Inspector General to conduct urgent investigations into the said conduct and utterances of the senator, pursuant to Article 157 (4) of the constitution.

ACTING PRESIDENT

The DPP also wants the senator to be interrogated in respect of the said conduct and utterances and the file be forwarded to his office for appropriate action.

Senator Sonko made the utterances during the burial of former Kathiani MP Wavinya Ndeti’s husband on Friday in Kathiani, Machakos County.

“Rais Uhuru ako Togo, his Deputy President William Ruto ako France. I am number three in command politically influence-wise and socially. I am now the acting president of the Republic of Kenya,” he was captured saying in a video clip.

This guy must be taking some wickedly lethal stuff instead of selling it all.

DPP has found the energy to investigate this guy for speech.  But he won't lift a finger to investigate, let alone prosecute and lock up Samuel Gichuru, who has already plead guilty to robbing wanjiku blind and money laundering in Jersey.

Usually the way it works is that SONKO would have discussed this with Uhuru, whom would
have agreed to SONKO going out there and uttering said treasonous statements

it helps keep fools yapping about rubbish rather then stuff like
WHY is Samwel Gichuru still free or the whereabouts of Eurobond proceeds, NYS etc.

it works perfectly each time.

I can't argue with that.  I actually don't see anything treasonous or worth wasting time on about that clown's antics.  It seems like something that should be allowed in free speech.  Otherwise we start going after every mad man in the market who claims he is the President.

The Penal Code is quite clear on what constitutes treason, and on that basis it's hard to imagine what the DPP thinks he is looking into.

On Chickengate: At the start of the year, the DPP stated that he was waiting for a file from the EACC.   At mid-year, he stated that he had received one part and was waiting for the other part.    It looks like it will take more than a year to transfer the file.  My guess is that it is being transported, in two parts, by an army of safari ants.

And it works.  Every single time.  When you read some of this stories, you get the impression that the DPP is a guy sitting in an office with stacks of physical files upto the roof.  And a warehouse for incoming files - with no staff.  He sounds as if he is not  talking about a case whose information, any interested Tom, Dick and Harry can easily access.  He does not need EACC.

Will this ever change?  It would take a monumental cultural change.

I cannot even imagine that the DPP got involved in this trivial matter while the backlog on serious criminal cases is up to the roof in his office.

I'm thinking of making the DPP an offer: "The next time I'm in Nairobi, give me the authority to go to the EACC offices and pick up the files.   I'll deliver them within a day at the most".

Otherwise, going by the way things work, I believe the relevant files from the UK would have been delivered to the Attorney-General's office first, not the EACC.   But perhaps Githu Muigai is not the sort of fellow would not respond in a nice way if he were accused of delays ... Better to pile the blame on a perpetually-chaotic EACC.

I suspect that the real problem here is this: people might toboa things if they get pushed to the wall.
