By most indicators. Mwilu has attempted to play ball too late, while Ouko, Ngatia are DOA by tribal politic. Martha is distinguished, reformist, independent- minded jurist and is fit for the role. Despite her ndeep Tharaka accent she can break the glass ceiling.

Why would Ngatia or Ouko be DOA on tribal politics yet Koome a GEMA be okay?

That is naive nonsense. Prof Ojwang was a Luo but his judicial philosophy was well known. Ouko is career judge and his judgements are well known. His Luo tribe is of little significance - because he like Ojwang or Magoha - he doesn't give a damn about tribe.

Anyway I think Koome and Ouko will both make it to Supreme Court - and for me Ouko - will become the president - Koome is a little mercurial. Ngatia is the most qualified but for political reasons I don't see him making.

At end of the day - the decision will be influenced by 1) Career judges sitting on the JSC and 2) Uhuru/LSK appointees.

My bet is Koome. Ouko tribe is DOA - he will be mere SCORK judge ala Ojwang. Maraga sullied the safe-pair-of-hands narrative despite being long-time insider. Ngatia you are right has Nzamba Kitonga problem: too independent. Koome maybe mercurial but not really a disruptor. Low-risk. She stands out more as a feminist than a reformist which makes her a good compromise. Mwilu demonstrated her independence under Maraga leading to her predicament.

Anyway anytime you tout someone as "great" it actually undermines them politically. Eg. your Samburu boy Lenaola is unlikely to be CJ soon: too brilliant, too independent. Maraga sneaked in because he was principally viewed as an intellectual lightweight.
