As much as I am for conspiracy theories due to limited information and also reluctance to trust governments and big corporates, I detest their contribution to apathy and helplessness.

If it gets 'confirmed' in Nairobi streets, I will consider going to the village and chilling for a month or so. There is yet no certainty on capability of Kenya to screen for the virus- sending samples to SA and waiting for a week!! and seems no urgency just prayers to Jehova just like locusts invasion..

That could all well be true---only time will tell---but if I may ask: where did Tencent and your ABC-scientist buddy get their numbers, and why should they be believed?  (I am assuming that those screenshots have indeed been verified and are not the usual mischief that some Chinese get into, on social media, when trying to claim malfeasance by their government.)

Tencent got it from wherever it has been getting the other data; government of course. They are not to be believed,she just reflects skepticism over the numbers Kung Fu man is churning out. There was a Lancet paper with its projections, there are epidemic models,but most importantly, China is keeping a tight leash on any information on the epidemic

That is one part of it.   For the other part see the bit in red.    (I also note that the "accidental real figures" are to be found on only tinfoil websites; I am unclear as to why normal people did not manage to see them.)   Tencent claimed the screenshots were doctored, and I have yet to see the tinfoil types prove they were not.

I'd be interested to hear you opinion on such responses (of which there are several going around).   I mean beyond something like "Tencent has obviously destroyed all the evidence by now".

More evidence of fudging numbers. The criteria used to count the deaths and infections was tweaked hence the crazy spike.

I don't know whether the Chinese are fudging numbers or not; only time will tell, but I would not assume that temporarily inaccurate numbers (which are inevitable) are a confirmation of mischief .   Nor is the changing the criteria for listed "cause of death" something that is entirely unknown or unnecessary; consider, for example, the different nasty things that could lead to pneumonia.  Nor do "crazy" spikes necessarily indicate that something untoward is afoot; South Korea has just had two really huge spikes---in just two days---in its reported numbers.  (I doubt the spikes are because the authorities are "at it again", but you may be able to enlighten us.) As for "the end", yes, it probably nowhere near; SARS spread for something like 8 or 9 months.

Korea spike is traceable to a sect and has nothing to do with changing criteria. In China the spikes followed issuing of guidelines and when they reversed themselves the count dropped. I think as of today, Feb 22nd the definition has changed 5 times in about a month. China is in goalseeking mode with the figures.

And talking of Korea,  they reported 142 new infections on Saturday while China reported 397 on Friday. South Korea's total infected are in their hundreds while China's are tens of thousands. Maybe China is doing a better job at containing Coronavirus.

Current reports points to worsening. And credible theory that Corona is a bio weapon from which leaked from Chinese lab located within Wuhan area.
Am now inclined to believe its getting worse. Government fudge numbers until they no longer can credibly do it anymore.
