bitmask & Socrates - the UK is an economic vibrant and trailblazer. An explorer culture that holds her head high. Butt her voice is muzzled and neutered in the EU. How many times have London rulers visited Nairobi since Thatcher? Rules for a large union are always sub-optimal - because they are a balancing act. Economically both the UK and California would be better off on their own. The EU is an economic encumbrance without the payoff. There are too many Polish and Hungarian low-skilled immigrants yet it is harder to attract skilled labor from say India. This disgruntles blue-collars and rednecks much like Latinos do the deplorables in the US. Even in your own corporation, as an expat or high skilled staff the workers' union does not benefit you nor is it wanted.

What unions bestow is group comfort in military and political matters. For instance in dealing with Russia or Iran or Kim Jong-Un. But with NATO that is moot. Canada, Aussie trade with the EU. I am unconvinced of the extra benefit the UK enjoys. The EU is shackles.

I see it as an ecosystem.  Times have changed.  Those Poles and Latinos are an integral part of the whole.  While they may not be doing cutting edge stuff, they do stuff that needs to be done.  I still don't know what is special about Britain that the Euros and the rest of the world simply won't look and find elsewhere.  Because shit can be produced anywhere, protectionism has no future.

It is a symbiosis - a limited ecosystem - the dependency is mutual and there is no need for the shackles. The EU is a raw deal marriage while the UK wants friends with benefits that Canada, Aussie, Japan, etc enjoy. UK industry is highly mature and competitive - noone will be displacing them without bigger opportunity coming their way. Britain eclipses Germany in this regard. They should trade with the EU and the world without having Poles and Croats imposed on them. They have their own rednecks for that and should determine their own job visa policy.

Australia and Canada are humongous countries with endless resources.  Japan remains an export powerhouse.  What does Britain have?

bitmask British industry is well established. The Japs are ahead but Aussie is not in the same league. Top of mind brands:

services - HSBC bank, PWC, Vodafone
auto - Jaguar, Rolls Royce, Land Rover
pharma & food - Reckitt Benckiser, GSK, Unilever, Diageo, BAT, Astra Zeneca
oil & minerals - BP, BHP Biliton, Rio Tinto
aerospace - BAE Systems, Concorde
arms - BAE Systems
film - Game of Thrones, James Bond, Sherlock Holmes, etc. not sure if SuperSport qualifies

I don't doubt that.  Yes, they have established brands.  But Britain are like 5th in the world overall.  In fact their GDP per capita is anemic by their "peers' standards.  An aging population with a shortage of nurses.

Now from your list, how does Brexit benefit any of these companies?  To me, it just seems like it's all about national pride.

The elite dominate corner offices so they are won't to sell out commoners in prefererence for lofty unions. Consider Apple and the Sino-US trade battles. Cook will swear it's bad for the economy - and he would be right about Apple - yet the overall outcome looks good. Business loathes DISRUPTION ergo endorses the status quo. Karasinga dukawallas and Bidcos unanimously backed Moi yet are soaring since his departure.

A competitive economy does not need blocks. It is the Greek and Poles who need the subsidies and cover. They thrive in open free trade. But the political shackles are the deal breakers. Canada would not have her highly successful and selective immigrant policy if it was in the EU.

The Tories' strength is Brexit. Jeremy cannot take a clear position because the Labour base is split among the leavers and remainers.

On the monarchy - most people misunderstand it as outdated. Democracy is progressive and expeditious and expedient. And fraught! Monarchy is residual power regardless of what is in vogue. So presently an indiscretion by Prince Andrew has caused unpopularity. This is the whole point why it is not accountable by the vote.

The UK does not have a written constitution by design to protect the monarchy. All authority is de jure vested in the sovereign - including head of the Church of England or spiritual leader - so no need to jot down the one-liner. De facto authority is delegated (but only by inferior laws) to the elected parliament and the courts. You can hardly reform conventions but a written constitution would be cited, contested and reformed.

It is a very open, accountable and equitable model. Exactly what Kenya needs.

Jo Swinson has taken a beating. She tried to play heroine with her massive selfies and billboards. Seem women don't like her... from the devious grilling at BBC Question Time last evening. It's a 2 horse race Boris and Jeremy.

Exit polls look like Boris landslide 386 vs 191 Labor.

So, being that Boris is a Trump like guy, is the vote about anti-immigrant, pro white, pro-big business and govt?
Pls Explain if youre on the ground.

How can someone convince me that democracy is good when you see clowns being voted in left and right to the highest office where they are able to make policies that will affect billions of people.

I think we are at that point. India and muslims, USA, Britain vs immigrants, China vs muslims, etc...

Yes immigration esp from Eastern Europe is the biggest driver of Brexit and Boris. His base is rednecks same as Trump. But I don't think democracy is going away soon. I see the UK suffering serious national divisions - Boris swept England and Wales. SNP swept Scotland. Sinn Fein has beat the DUP in Northern Ireland. Boris will find it very tricky to bulldoze his deal.

I would vote for Tories too if I was a redneck. There is no gain for them in EU economy...

Plato Tories are the same system cloaked as reforms. They are pro- business, low taxes, no safety net. At least Labour are socialists. Misery avers responsibility so the aliens and immigration must be the cause of all problems. You have seen in SA negro lynching negro... for taking away the jobs.

It is an oxymoron that rednecks are crowning demagogues everywhere. Buying smoke.
