I'm surprised there isn't much study on this from a scientific sense. I suspect it's like vomiting and relates to some primal instinct. The need to purge for whatever reason.

I believe the mentally ill, the druggies, etc are in the minority. These shootings are TERRORISM - we may not know the story as the police are experts in maligning the sane but aggrieved shooters as psycos. These are symptoms of a divided society with political motive as the main driver.

The police lie to deny the shooters a voice or political mileage. Nope, they are not crazy, they are terrorists.

This was perpetrated by a disgruntled utilities worker. They cause terror but I don't think in this case it would be affiliated with terrorism related to terrorist networks.

Even more specifically American conservative white men, the rare exception notwithstanding.  I think it has gotten worse under Trump.

Many factors obviously.  But key ones are ease of access to firearms, including to certifiably insane citizens, ridiculous costs of healthcare including mental healthcare, a frontier mentality that never waned.

Angry white men disillusioned that they can't be whatever they want in merica. The increasing presence of successful people they despise and whom they are wired to believe are an underclass means the problem is not ending soon given they are not ready to give up their guns.

It's uniquely American.  There are outliers of course, like the Sweden and New Zealand cases demonstrate.  Yes, the obvious solution, as study after study shows is to "take  away their guns".  But these nuts will give up their healthcare, social security, freedom etc before they let you pry their gun from their cold dead hands.

The demographic makes it terror,  not illness. Illness is not demographic. Violent white supremacy is dictionary terrorism because it is political. When you dig deeper, if the shooter did his homework, there is an elaborate bodywork of white supremacy. Like that Aussie dude who let loose on the New Zealanders. There is no difference between them and ISIL.

The term 'terrorist' in the modern sense was used from the 70s and is related to warfare. A terrorist were either individuals affiliated with non-state organisations like al qaeda or state sponsored like Saudi Arabia & Iran. They are normally funded by private groups for non-state warfare purposes, deployed to cause economic turmoil. Recruited from destitute communities with the promise of paying their loved ones large sums of money after their demise. They are not mentally ill, they are soldiers doing a job. Think honour killing.
