This old gizzard -62yr old who has most likely eaten enough in KPLC - is undergoing vetting. Last week he spent the weekend in police cells.

Such a shame.  I mean have some shame and decline the nomination.

Whatever happened to chapter six on ethics.

He says he is worth 212 Million. I think he has grossly understated his worth

I think it's insane to have parliament vetting this position.  We also need a law that prevents any parliament from benefiting from any remunerations that it sets, only coming into effect in the next parliament.

Impunity/corruption in Kenya has reached the biblical Sodom and Gomorrah proportions.  There is no more shame or pretense. The parliament has no shame vetting this dude instead of withdrawing his name has no shame sitting there and being vetted.  It reminds me of that idiot odm mp Kaluma proudly defending his right to attend world cup on tax payers money.

This is when military start overthrowing civilian gov & sent the whole lot to gallows. They'd probably have entire executive and Mps line up and shot. Then shot again until theyre dead. Such a purge would be welcomed by nearly everyone. We are luckly our military have no ideological bent. I think it by design we have one of most politically naive military - we hire the worse. In countries like UG or Ethiopia or Rwanda - military folks would simply long have overthrown our civilian rule. Those countries with history of revolution & coups have military that are so politically attumed they would simply overthrow a civilian gov like ours....I mean Ghana, Nigeria, name it. It probably only Kenya, Zambia & TZ where politician have this carte blanche.

These guys have reach such level of impunity only drastic action will make them stop and think.

I agree with that too.   But even where integrity is not a problem, these guys should not be vetting the guy responsible for their salaries.  I don't know the exact requirements for this position, but someone else needs to do that job.

I think the top echelons of the military has been very well co-opted.  Initial coups usually come from the lower ranks and are bloody.  Subsequent coups are bloodless replacements of the top ranks.

RV Pundit even dares mention Chapter 6. :D :D :D :D
Dignity and shame died in 2013 the minute the two ICC suspects while on bail were elected to the highest office in Kenya. Chumo is right as he is not alone.

It seems Pundit has reached the Road to Damascus too. I hope you come to the same conclusion most of us have about Ruto as well. I mean SRC is just a commission yet the Lord of Corruption wants to run the country.

@bitmask,  SRC sets salaries "independently" for all public officials and civil servants. The last Parliament went rogue, froze SRC budget and bullied them, until the commission caved in and allowed them hefty increments. Uhuruto and the courts cowardly failed to help SRC.

You're an idiot who cannot distinguish btw elected and appointed offices. Uhuru and Ruto resigned from gov after 2010 constitution - but retained their MP & DPM positions. They were elected  bacause the threshold for political office is high. And the reason being kenyan as per article 1 have the override.

I am perfectly okay with Ben Chumo looking for political office. If kenyans want to ELECT a barnabas - they should do so. But for any office where people do not elect you directly - we stick to chapter six.

I don't sway like you do - like a seesaw. I take principled position after considering all facts. My position regarding chapter six has NEVER changed and will NEVER change. Elected official are not subject to chapter six. Constitution is clear on who qualify for any elected position and those include convinced criminals appealing their case.

It also very clear that chapter six only applies to appointed public officials
- CS and all the way down - they shouldn't have any criminal cases or belong to political parties or any ethical issues and must be cleared and vetted.

People rushed to Mutunga when UhuRuto ran for PORK and they were told by courts it very clear - like day and night - who qualify to ran for MP & PORK. It is also clear how they can be removed. Not through chapter six violation. By through death or impeachment or recall.

These are BASIC STD 6 interpretation of our constitution.

Come on, everyone has the privilege to repent... including Pundit and Ruto. Uhuru has already seen the light.

In short your stand is based on a technicality - interpretation - not any outrage against corruption. Ruto lost me when his allies openly resisted the lifestyle audit. Before that all we had are your rumors here about Uhuru 30B SGR and Ruto's "flawless looting machine". All PORK candidates at least pretend they will have zero tolerance to corruption - Kibaki,  Raila, Uhuru,  Magufuli, Mnangagwa - before later indulging. It's a new low for a PORK candidate to brazenly oppose the war on corruption.

It's not a technicality - it more a reality. There is a reason why we don't hold our politician to very high standards. That in essence is democracy and we let people consider all factors. You see Ruto has his flaws but when everything is considered I still support him. I think he only loot because our politics is so money centered - he'd be buried day one without money. We have people without any merit the likes of Gideon - probably without even high school certificate - and drunkards like Uhuru - and someone like Raila - who never completed primary school - sons of doyen of poltiics whose parent started looting in 1950s!! - all out there - because they of their money, patronage & pedigree.

You join politics and day one you realize you need tonnes of money or you not going nowhere. I don't think Ruto loots because he is kleptomanic - he loots so he can use the money to buy or shore up his political support - which he why he donate vigorously, finance politicians and political projects. Raila loots to enrich himself. That is big difference.Of course all this is conjecture - Ruto legally is clean as pamba.

Why did Ruto oppose lifestyle audit & anti-graft war - because he is not naive - he knows where everyone is corrupt and the certainly there is a "fight" against corruption - it just the usual time for sacrifices - a few sacrificial lambs will be offered to Gods of Corruption & society sins will be forgiven. You'd be stupid if you naively become one of the sacrificial lamb. Secondly Ruto has a big battle coming up in 2022 - he need money to finance his dreams and if all corruption panya routes are closed...he'll have to figure out how to finance the very expensive elections.

As long as Raila is being cozy with Uhuru - Ruto will be naive to go to sleep. He has to remain ever awake and that I think is what he'll have to do. Politics is that fluid.
