Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has told President uhuru Kenyatta not to succumb to blackmail from those opposed to lifestyle audits.

Mutua said those resisting the audits should be the first in line if they have nothing to hide and are not afraid.

The county boss claimed that a section of legislators have attempted to Implicate the President's relatives in the sugar scandal.

"The President has however said that nobody will be spared in his anti-corruption crusade, not even his relatives if they are found culpable," he said.

He told politicians not to be accept monies suspected to be proceeds of corruption."

While noting that runaway corruption has ruined Kenya, the Governor dismissed calls for a legal framework for the exercise as a "lame excuse".

"The audit is not meant to target any individual in particular as all political leaders and civil servants will be subjected to it," he said.

He spoke on Friday during the official opening of the South Eastern Agriculture Society of Kenya show in Machakos town.

Mutua further said that "some individuals are roaming all over distributing corruption and blood money to [gain] support".

They will not succeed, he said, adding it is absurd that some leaders are living in pre-colonial times as they insult each other and perpetuate tribalism.

Mutua, who is Maendeleo Chap Chap leader, reiterated that he will vie for the presidency in 2022.

About 30 MCAs, led by Majority Leader Francis Ngunga, backed him.

Agricultural Society of Kenya Chairman Annabel Kiriinya and Chief Executive Officer Batram Muthoka were also at the function.
