Tues 9th August 2022, Election Day
Former President Daniel Moi has asked politicians who have been agitating for a referendum to back down and instead support calls for development by the Government. Speaking at Sacho High School, Baringo County, the retired President urged Kenyans and leaders not to be distracted by the referendum politics terming it as a waste of time and resources. He said it is ironical for people to begin thinking of another election just a year after the last general elections. "We had the election a year ago and what else do we need if not development? We need to improve the lives of our people, not endless noises," Moi said. Moi, who was addressing students, parents and members of Sacho community during the 23rd baptismal ceremony at the school said he is optimistic the referendum campaigners will abandon the cause and give room to development. GOOD SCHOOLS "We have already made a decision, therefore we need nothing else and what is going on in the political arena is not necessary at all. Our children are in need of good schools and that is what leaders should be debating about," he said. The former head of state, who gave out bibles to the 145 students, pupils and members of the community after they were baptised, took the opportunity to wish success all candidates across the country sitting for their national exam next month. He urged the candidates to study and prepare adequately to perform excellently when that time comes, saying that is the only way to succeed. He was accompanied by Kabarak University Vice Chancellor Jones Kaleli, Kabarak High school Principal Henry Kiplagat and Sacho Principal Richard Moindi. Prof Kaleli warned Christians not to be swayed by some of the teachings being propagated by emerging religious leaders.Read more at: http://standardmedia.co.ke/article/2000135709/kenyans-want-development-not-endless-noise-moi-tells-leaders
he should stop flying choppers and use his many ranger rovers to drive on the many new roads constructed thanks to pesa mashinani. He should see how many schools are coming up without shaking down Asian businessmen or collecting kickbacks to donate at "harambees". Moi clearly shows he has never understood what democracy is all about and hence those who thought he could preside over a democratic Kenya were mistaken. The US holds elections every two years for all the members of the House of Representatives and half of the senate. Has it failed to "develop" on account of frequent elections? Was it not the reason he denied Kenyans a vote when he illegally took over from Kenyatta in 1978.But it did not stop him from calling an early election in 1983 to get an opportunity to rig out his opponents.QuoteFormer President Daniel Moi has asked politicians who have been agitating for a referendum to back down and instead support calls for development by the Government.
