Who cares which party promised first. Free education kindergarten to college is the way to go.

Jubilee and Uhuru apparently do. Yesterday he went after Raila for allegedly stealing his ideas! Jubilee promised free milk for children in schools. They did not deliver a drop. They did not promise free education.

Anyway, Raila / NASA promise to deliver free education from september while Uhuru says they'll do it in January. So why is it not in the budget? NASA makes it clear they will do a supplementary budget immediately they take power

If you calculate how much it costs and then look at any corruption case, you'll ask yourself why this wasn't done before.

There are many benefits. For starters families get to keep about 200K annually. In am sure they would not object to paying a percentage more tax. The key is to guarantee that the taxes are properly used. Jubilee has no credibility and any tax increases would either be stolen or fund lavish overseas travel for Uhuru and Ruto. The amount spent on buying wine and alcohol at State House (not to mention bangi) can build classrooms for all those horror schools people post images of here.We shall start with the one in Thika where kids sit on stones.

Speaking of Bangi in State House, I would recommend nobody rushing in there. The fumes could start off everybody laughing.

It's good that both parties are now promising free secondary education. Let us hear free college education. This best use of taxes together with investing in Infrastructure.

It can take different forms. For starters all those who qualify for admission will be guaranteed loans. The status of the parents or their income will not be taken into consideration to restore equality between students and not stigmatize the loan-takers

Secondly, the loan portion of the HELB disbursements to a student will decrease progressively as the stipend portion in an inverse correlation.

Discrimination would end with money following the student. That means the same subsidies paid to public universities will be offered to private universities commensurate with the number of students enrolled. As a requirement for accepting the subsidies, the universities would undertake to curtail fee hikes and unnecessary charges.

NASA will build more hostels and bring sanity to food and Accommodation in public universities. It would make the hostels open to all students regardless of the university/ institution they are attending.

Sound sensible. The same ought to include TIVET (Middle level Colleges). There are just too many form 4 leavers who are stuck in the villages without any skills. I think this probably our biggest problem now...transition from secondary to colleges (skills)...and it mostly come down to money (fees) and ignorance of the need to .

In a decent democracy, the sitting government would invite the opposition and quickly pass legislation to accommodate all they agree on.

It usually starts as a taunt: If you are saying that then come and join us pas it! The opposition takes up the challenge.

I asked NASA why they could not take the matter to parliament NOW and force Jubilee's hand. It is simple: If they agree, whoever wins must implement or face the consequences of being called an election period LIAR

Uhuru outlined the idea of paying interns. Three years ago, I advised them to implement the Industrial Training Act and ensure that ALL those wining government contracts hire apprentices. It was ignored. two months before elections when the eating is threatened, he is articulating a half baked policy. Interns are usually already on their way to proper employment and the only thing they lack is experience. A body is formed to secure internship for them and they do not have to be paid by the state. 90% eventually get jobs within 2 months ending the internship.

It is the apprentices that have problems completing their middle level institutional training. They need the apprenticeship to complete their course. Uhuru needed smart people around him but sadly he couldn't find in the small catchment area he chose. Too bad let him watch from his mother's living room as we fix things
