I see this as the cleaning of the Kibaki retinue. Most of those people starting with Wambui rosae on the coattails of Kibaki. His influence has now waned and a transition was inevitable.

The likes of Kabando are potential trouble makers for Ruto and he may have obtained tacit support to weed them out.

The thing that scares me is what may come next. Current mps have been mia when it comes to govt oversight, basically sleeping on the job while colleccting pay. Will the next one be any better?

Actually after the new faces, the only unsure thing has already happened.  What comes next is the sure thing.  History.  History.  History.

Actually after the new faces, the only unsure thing has already happened.  What comes next is the sure thing.  History.  History.  History.

* Step 1, Elections time:
Past performance, potential to perform, policies, any hint of a desire to serve the public ... Kenyans will not give the slightest attention to these, but they will be ready to go go as far as committing violence on other grounds.

* Step 2: People get elected into office, and they focus on eating and "recouping and earning interest" on their "investments" (i.e. handouts and bribes during Step 1.)  Bugger public service.

* Step 3: Kenyans are astonished that new-and-improved lot is no better than the lot that got kicked out.   They are disgusted.   They promise that the greedy, selfish lot will be thrown out of office at the next elections and replaced with a new-and-improved lot.

* Step 4: Repeat from Step 1.

Yep.  I wonder if low life expectancy has anything to do with it.  Kenyans are very young in general.  That could mean institutional memory is pretty shaky.  That they believe what they are doing is unprecedented.

There is no other practical accountability mechanism voters can exercise. The recall clause was peed on and is also too disruptive if not a nuisance.

Others could be stronger party structures and say the speaker's office; EACC/police/judges doing its work too would help.

Perhaps.   But what does that have to do with voters not using their heads when "exercising" that "practical accountability mechanism"?

That the next lot of legislators will be no different from the current one has nothing to do with EACC/police/judges.  It will merely reflect the people's choices.

Until Kenyans are prepared to show, in practical terms, that they really want change, not much will change.

They will vote for people they know are crooks and spend a good chunk of the next 5 years complaining that the people they knew are crooks, are behaving like crooks.

Its interesting though that they are kicking out old crooks and replacing them with new crooks.  They obviously do not buy into the old adage that the crook you know is better than the crook you do not know.  This should give some hope for NASA.

I am told kamanda is back and Jaguar has been promised a big job with unlimited corruption possibilities. He has conceded. Yusuf of Kamukunji is another case. The Kikuyus want that seat kwa nguvu. But the Somalis have registered there in large numbers. I think they want Simon Mbugua
