NHIF and NSSF should be merged into one body. A % (based on population) of the County funds be paid to the new body to cater for health. All medical services be free to Kenyan Residents. Those seeking private hospital care can do so and the hospital gets paid the same rate a public hospital would charge. If more costly then the patient can top up.

The problems of fraud and over medication can be dealt with the same way other countries have. Those who wish to take out private insurance can do so as part of their luxury and enjoyment.

What component makes it so expensive?  Is it the drugs?  The doctor's fees?  Equipment?

These doctors perform unnecessary tests. The yre told they need to generate money for these hospitals to stay atop. Most doctors cant even read these results that are generated. My niece was given a diagnosis for sepsis, but being a medical personnel i decided to look closer. Only to find she had a urinary tract infection. They made her stay in hospital for three days for a damn UTI!!! This is something you get antibiotics and then keep up with your routine.
Docs depend too much on machines instead of good old detective work, and these machines are expensive.
