Why Can't Eugene Wamalwa Resign and Run for Office?
« on: August 28, 2016, 02:01:57 PM »
He is supposed to be the smart lawyer and advocate who has Yoweeri Museveni on his client list. He has been a member of parliament albeit one short term. He was a minister for "Justice" when the constitution had been enacted.

So is it that despite all that Wamalwa does not know that as a Cabinet Secretary he is not allowed by law to engage in partisan politics?

These are the "small" things that added to make KANU toxic. So far Wamalwa remains the only minister who has been willing to thump it in the faces of Kenyans as he freely engages in politics despite the law expressly banning it.

Yeah he need to go slow until Feb 2016 when he'll have to resign. He is free to campaign smartely by delivering in his water docket. That is the biggest campaign platform he has. He can try to sort out Nairobi water crisis for starters. It make no difference to elect Wamalwa over Kidero or Soko if he has nothing to show in his docket.

Agreed.  He is naive as a politician.  But he knows enough to understand that he can break certain laws with impunity.

Gumzo (Mjadala) and Termie

I am just pointing out the signs and indicators of a party already tired and worn out. KANU took 25 years to start showing such impunity: Jubilee is not even 4 complete years in power and it has already beaten KANU on every front: Corruption, Impunity, Illegal detentions, Extra Judicial Killings Enforced Disappearances, Illegal eavesdropping, Political bribery, Election rigging, etc

It is like we never passed a new constitution. What they can't change through their voting machines in parliament, they simply ignore.

There is a book by Ezekiel Mphahlele I read. It was called Chirundu. Chimba Chirundu, ex-Headmaster and now powerful Minister for transport is brought for trial for bigamy following a complaint by his wife - Tirenje. He knew when going through another marriage that it was illegal. But he just didn't care. He goes to prison alright - which is a twist not likely in Kenya.

In the novel, Chirundu - a very nasty man to almost everybody - is strangely very civil, polite and extra nice to his nephew whom he refers to by his respectable title "Asibweni".

It was with relief I came to learn that this was based on a true story. The author read about a minister in Zambia being jailed for bigamy and decided to provide an explanation.

Now when you listen to Eunice he is the image of respect. He gives the aura of being a man obedient to the law and polite. Now contrast his image and his actions and you find him no better than the worst of Moi's ministers like The Late Onyonka (who shot a man in the mouth when his body guards were to afraid to shoot) or Paul Ngei (who has a number of bodies buried around the country.

Omollo,

You can be sure I totally share your perspective.  These guys do so many wrongs though, it's exhausting trying to keep up.

Sonko has defied Ruto for fronting Wamalwa just so he can line up Luhyas as Gema backup. Claiming it is a Gema offer to Luhya... Sonko is a sharp sob who puts up gimmicks so opponents can underrate him. Checkmate: hold free and fair nominations he beats Wamalwa to a pulp. Rig he rains on the party.

Eugene has long as he has Uhuru support is the guy to beat. So far I think GEMA have warmed up to the idea. Sonko is an alley cat and will fight -but Nairobi is too important to be left to a ruffian.

That is what I mean -- how does Uhuru maintain the free- and- fair charade while favoring Wamalwa? He risks putting Jubilee at a disadvantage in swing areas like Nairobi. Piss off Sonko et al and Kidero sneaks in again.

UhuRuto have not endorsed anybody directly. So sonko or anybody cannot make that claim. Big difference with Raila campaigning for someone.
