A university student accused of giving false information to two senior police officers was on Thursday charged after being found fit for trial.Wicklif Ochieng' made claims that Nairobi ODM chairman George Aladwa recruited youth to be militia that would assist Cord leader Raila Odinga overthrow the government.Ochieng' denied the charges before Milimani principal magistrate Daniel Ogembo.He also denied giving false information to police that Professor Bernard Njoroge, a deputy vice chancellor of University of Nairobi, was planning to assassinate Professor Peter Mbithi.Ogembo directed the accused to be released on a bond of Sh300,000 or a cash bail of Sh30,000.During Ochieng's appearance on Tuesday, principal magistrate Joyce Oluoch ordered the accused to undergo mental assessment at Kenyatta National Hospital before pleading to charges.The magistrate had also ordered that Ochieng be remanded at Kilimani police station until Thursday.In the first count, the court heard that on February 1, Ochieng' informed Chief Inspector Fatuma Hadi Ali that one Omondi Karori and Aladwa had recruited him and others to be trained as militia in Southern Sudan.Ochieng' told Hadi that they would be trained together with Riek Machar's forces to assist Raila take over the government after the 2017 general elections.
