Sam Gichuru Millions Seized

as his company pleads guilty in money laundering.

They have offered to discuss with Kenya how to repatriate these funds.  They did the same with chicken-gate but no takers were forthcoming.

I look forward to discussions with the Kenyan authorities on an asset sharing agreement in order to repatriate the confiscated funds to Kenya in an appropriate manner.

The Kenyan govt has too much money to follow such pennies. Meanwhile, kids can't afford to go to secondary school.

That a step in right direction. Now can rest of so called financial haven clean up their books of any criminal proceedings esp from a really poor continent like Africa. I think If they do this, Africa will not need EuroBond in the short term.

Mind you the "steps in the right direction" are being done by foreigners and not the Kenyan public which was conned of billions.
It is very interesting that no investigations have been undertaken in Kenya to establish how much this duo looted from KPLC. KPLC did not only deal with firms from Europe.

The shenanigans of this thieving duo are, among very many others, directly responsible for the poor state the Kenyan economy is right now. The loot they received was loaded onto the loans given to KPLC, making our electricity so expensive that is has been, even today, very expensive for Kenyan companies to manufacture goods. Forget vision 2030, we'll just remain a country of re-sellers while planning on exporting our best workers.

Unfortunately, Kenya was built using a firm foundation of corruption. All the government institutions (past and present) including the banking/private sector are very deeply involved. Any serious attempt to tackle this vice would bring the whole house of cards tumbling down, which none of the elite want.

The foreigners are not blameless. It should be hard to launder criminal money in their havens. The money from corruption, terrorism and drug trafficking were being cleaned in Europe financial haven and I'm glad they are doing something. Obviously we don't have the capacity to deal with gazillions of crimes happening now..leave alone those that happen 20yrs ago...and any assistance from foreigners ought to be lauded and welcome.

Jersey has done good here. They need continue doing this...clean their books of Africa illicit money and they can remain financial haven for genuine business.

I think it's naive for Jersey to offer to return the money.  I think all such monies should be placed in a trust until the day Kenya gets a group in charge that might put it to good use.

I take it that DPP is aware of this confession.  Do we have to wait for him to be shamed into prosecuting?  Will EACC perhaps use this open and shut case to investigate Gichuru?

Investigating Gichuru / Okemo is absolutely not as easy at it seems.

In fact, it's practically impossible.

These few corruption cases the Brits have solved with have placed impunity in the open for all to see.  We can rest assured they will go about their lives, enjoying their loot, unmolested as long as they remain in Kenya.

Actually, they have done more than that and yes, you're right; they'll enjoy their life very comfortably..

Corruption in Kenya is not a one or two man operation, as a cursory glance at the NYS / KPLC sagas show. There are very many people involved.

In NYS, word is leaking out that among the prime suspects, dozens of civil servants and at least 50 MPigs were involved in the systematic looting. In the KPLC one, if Gichuru / Okemo ever get extradited (pipe dream), just imagine them outing all the people who were involved in the long corruption chain and ate, whether it was millions (Moi and/or his family most likely also ate, tendering committees, etc.) or just a couple of thousand $'s.

KP paid such commissions to various people.http://www.the-star.co.ke/news/2016/02/29/11-firms-bribed-gichuru-for-kplc-contracts_c1302994

So the question is, of the confirmed bribes Gichuru / Okemo received, how much was passed on and to whom?

that may only come out if the duo kept a ledger and documented the cash transfers to whoever they passed the money to. Other than that it will just be a matter of hearsay

I still agree with Empedocles logic though.  It may be hearsay, but they will not chance it being said by either of these two in Jesrsey.  It may be enough to set Jersey authorities on new trails.

Okemo or Gichuru could shot by a tomato-hawking part-time sniper before they board any plane out.

I always think of this when it comes to grand corruption in Kenya:

Quote

In Kenya, when the culprits pretend to give evidence, they'll make sure it's just uncorroborated with intentional nonsense which simply takes everybody round and round in circles, with no end in sight.

Some examples: NYS investigations, Triton, Maize Saga, Anglo Fleecing, Goldenberg, Gichuru/Okemo extradition, the suspended CS's, plus tens of other investigations. No meaningful information will ever be outed, whether from the current ruling party or the opposition.

United we stand.
Divided we fall.
