Let them enjoy these last years with raids, killing the economy and sinking America slowly, because in the midterms and beyond, it will be an epic shellacking for 10+ years. Both Ron DeSantis and Trump came out big and endorsed a Latino in a major Latino town, but Latinos, Cubans, and everybody else came out and said, "Fuck you." Immigration shit is hurting and we are voting for an ultra-liberal white woman for the first time in 30 years.  Republicans have been dominating with the help of Latino voters, particularly Cubans, Haitians, and Venezuelans since 1990s, but with those 19 countries banned from immigration benefits, all these groups are running to Democrats like their lives depend on it. If you are a keen observer and consumer of US politics, you know what lies ahead. It seems Democrats, with a short gut punch and temporary loss, will reap for decades with all the minorities voting like AAs into the future.

MIAMI — Democrats can now add a major city in Donald Trump’s home state — and one set to host his future presidential library — to its list of off-cycle election wins.

In a Tuesday runoff, Miamians elected Eileen Higgins as mayor, the first woman in the city’s history to hold the job and the first Democrat in 28 years. Higgins, a former county commissioner, defeated Republican Emilio González, an ex-city manager who had the endorsement of Trump and Gov. Ron DeSantis, with 60 percent of the vote. “Miami chose a new direction,” Higgins said during her victory speech at the Miami Woman’s Club. “You chose competence over chaos, results over excuses and a city government that finally works for you.”


Though the race and the job of mayor are nominally nonpartisan, the election generated sizable interest from national Democrats and Republicans. Higgins’ win adds to the slew of victories and close calls Democrats have seen this year, including last week’s strong performance in a House special election in Tennessee.

The election could boost messaging for Florida Democrats, who’ve faced setbacks in recent election cycles and have a 1.4 million registered voter disadvantage in this former swing state.

“Tonight’s victory shows that the pendulum is swinging in our favor and that when we commit to relentless, year-round organizing and invest in a long-term strategic field program, we can, in fact, win,” FDP Chair Nikki Fried said in a statement Tuesday night.

Despite the race’s partisan themes, Higgins, a mechanical engineer and former Peace Corp director in Belize, often shunned partisanship in interviews and instead ran a campaign focused on how she would make city government work better and faster to help alleviate residents’ affordability issues. She promised Tuesday night to get to work the very next day and to “serve every single day to be the honest, effective, hard-working mayor you deserve.

She and González also agreed the city’s politics had been far too dynastic, dramatic and corrupt, and both called for entering a new era of stability. Miami’s international standing is set to grow in the years ahead, given the city will host FIFA World Cup matches and neighbors Doral, the site of the 2026 G-20 summit. Its population since the Covid pandemic also has surged with wealthy residents who’ve contributed to making life less affordable for longtime Miamians.

He took in Tuesday night’s results at Meraki Greek Bistro, where he was taped by WPLG breaking plates in the Greek tradition — a tradition that’s viewed as cathartic. Higgins shared that he’d called her to concede the race and that they had a “shared desire to see Miami succeed.” The Miami Herald reported he told Higgins he would get behind her.

I don't remember Pete Wilson's politics, but if he pushed immigrants to the limit, I think Trump and Deathsantis have done much worse in Florida. I think with Venezuelans and Cubans taking the most pain, Fl will be another California going forward. I think if immigration was not based on racial profiling, it would not be that invasive, but now that color of skin, eyes, and hair are used by police to pull people over and request documents like birth certificates, social security cards, etc., people have pushed people to the limit. In most counties outside major blue cities, police now have technology to run licence plates and pull anyone who is not a citizen, especially now that real ID data has been captured. Latinos, for the most part, have taken a serious hit, and I suspect they will be voting against Republicans for a very long time! Florida's 29 electoral votes are going to the blue column soon!

Pundit & RVHH - why I brought up Ruto here - is because Trump is a good comparison.

The institutions here - and federal structure - stop Trump from outright rigging. Elections are run by the states so he would literally be calling for insurrection. You can see now RED Indiana has refused to rig the districts after California simply matched Texas ukora. Trump had shamelessly cooked the number of congressional seats to favor the Republicans but even the red states have refused to indulge him.

Trump has even deployed the army to assist ICE and I don't doubt he would want a third term to carry out his delusional "remogration". But the off-year elections are putting him in his place. Trump would equally rig if he could.

But Kenya has no such guardrails.. without US or EU pushing democracy you can easily regress to Moi days. And you are in good company in that neighborhood.

If you take off the tribal blinkers Ruto is just another Trump moron. The only difference is Trump's inability to rig the elections.
