Mbeere North by-election first credible polls are in...
« on: September 06, 2025, 06:05:23 PM »
At the moment DP's Karish is leading by 40%, followed by the newly unveiled UDA candidate at 33%. DCP at 20% and the rest way down. I think the fact that UDA's Leo Muriuki is second yet he entered the scene days ago speaks volumes. When big guns and billions enter the sleepy villages, he may overpower opponents easily. I suspect parties will send high-powered surrogates and money to test and maintain strength as they prepare for the epic 2027 battle royale.

According to the survey released on Wednesday, September 3, the Democratic Party's (DP) Newton Karish leads the race with 40.1% support. Trailing Karish is the ruling party, United Democratic Alliance's (UDA) candidate Leonard Muriuki, with 33.3% popularity. Former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua's Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) candidate Duncan Mbui is in third place with 20%. While his party enjoys the highest preference at 43.3% across the constituency, Mbui has struggled to translate this into personal support. This gap between party strength and candidate performance underscores the challenges DCP faces in converting its broad base into actual votes. Josiah Thiriku and undecided voters each accounted for 3.3%, highlighting how the race remains largely concentrated among the three leading contenders.

It seems DCP has stepped down for DP. But DCP candidate Duncan Mbui is furious and is going independent.

I wouldn't step down if I was RiggyG - fight tooth and nail. Clearly he has the troops.

Lakini bado - not likely RiggyG can just give up easy. He must dominate mlima yote or forget being powerful kingmaker.

For parties,
DCP is the most popular at 43.3%
UDA at 26.7%
DP a meagre 6.5%

Party politics, especially in by-elections reveals alot about party leaders. It seems Gachagua has failed the first test.  A DCP candidate quitting and saying DCP is a party of thugs means a lot!

Don't get so excited. Mbui is mad because DCP has tactically retreated to back DP guy. He didn't quit willingly.

DCP is very popular in Mlima - people are already fighting for 2027 tickets in Meru.

Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has assured party members that the selection of candidates for the 2027 general elections will be transparent and based purely on merit.

Taking to X, after speaking at his Wamunyoro residence on Saturday, September 6, 2025, Gachagua said the party will not favour any aspirant over another.

“I assured them that our party remains truly democratic and transparent, and we have no preference for any candidates whatsoever. Every aspirant will be given an equal opportunity based on merit, commitment, and the will of the people,” he said.

The DCP leader addressed over 200 aspirants who are eyeing party tickets, praising them for their dedication during the membership drive and for promoting the party’s philosophy with integrity. He emphasised that the party is committed to a fair and inclusive process that prioritises the wishes of the people.

In Kenya you can hire people to clap for you, sloganeer, show happiness, and even come to funerals to mourn and ululate. The reality can only be deduced when IEBC announces the winner.

The fact DCP has stepped down - dwarf might be spared despite losing. RiggyG must have smelled possible loss to UDA so decided to back DP boy.
