The Promises We Keep in Kenya
Dear
When it seems like the world is lost, we bring words of hope.
Because we raised over $300,000 in our Campaign for Hope & Transformation, we can support our already successful programs as well as build new ones.
Also, because of relationships we’ve built over the years, we can get partners involved in various projects that bring water to those who normally can’t access it.
We’re excited to tell you more about some of this work going on right now in Kenya! Let’s take a look at what our groups and partners have accomplished so far in this 58th edition of WILK Wednesday.

LAB Project Update
Training New Herders in Livestock Management
Cows are essential to Maasai culture, economy, and status. This is why WILK’s Livestock as a Business (LAB) program combines traditional livestock-raising techniques with modern business skills training to help Maasai herders get a better return on their cattle.
The Empusel group shows off cows purchased at the market.
Fice new LAB groups were trained last year, each with 10-15 members, and they’ve been learning as much as they can to improve the quality of their livestock.
To find out more about what our newest LAB groups have been up to since they began training last year, check out our recent blog post.

WILK-TEC Project Update
Enchakita Primary School Rainwater Harvesting System
In September, Water is Life Kenya Technical Engineering Committee (WILK-TEC) successfully upgraded and expanded the rainwater harvesting system at Enchakita Primary School. This marked the first phase of rehabilitation work for Enchakita, following a similar project completed by WILK-TEC at Imurtot Primary School.

WILK-TEC is a group of skilled engineers who design, develop, and implement sustainable water projects in Kenya. Since 2016, the group has collaborated with Water is Life Kenya and, as of last year, it has worked exclusively with WILK.
The goals of the September 2024 rainwater harvesting system implementation were to enhance water retention capabilities and install a filtration system on two building sides.
Get a day-by-day recap of how WILK-TEC completed this project by reading about engineer Carley Williamson’s experience on our blog.

Seeking Ways to Help Young Kenyans
A growing problem in Kenya is that, once students graduate from high school or college, they realize there aren’t many jobs available. It’s a common problem worldwide, but Kenya’s fluctuating economy makes finding employment even more difficult.
We at WILK have thought about this issue for a long time, and last week we met with 49 young men to discuss the problem. We have three more meetings set up for Ilmarba, Enkong’u Narok, and Esiteti. But, more importantly, we’re already getting positive feedback from those who were at our first meeting. Here are some words of encouragement from Peter:
“Your initiative is empowering young minds to reflect, set meaningful goals, and take actionable steps towards personal and community development. Such efforts are invaluable in fostering a generation of proactive, solution-oriented leaders.
“Thank you for your vision, commitment, and for making a positive difference in the lives of many. We look forward to continued collaboration and learning opportunities under your guidance.”
Our WILK team leads a discussion during the first Youth Program Meeting.
We’re already off to a promising start in 2025! As we continue building on our existing programs, finding new partners inspired by our work, and learning more about what young people need in Kajiado County, we’ll make even greater strides in helping our Maasai friends.
Thank you for making this work possible!
With positivity,
The WILK Team
