I hope you are right. AU seems headed for deepening  consolidation.. with freed trade zone ala EU. Kenya should benefit. Kenya has never held AU or OAU.

I thought Moi was OAU chairman at one point. Ruto will cost Raila AU chairman seat. Our foreign policy need to be revised. We have tilted too much to the west while most African countries are aligning with global south so other African countries have to be suspicious why does Kenya want to control AU so badly

Looks like the President Ruto used Kenyan playbook after securing SADC, most COMESA, AND 100% EAC. You support Raila, we support SELMA of Algeria for deputy! Once you break North Africa votes, and have secured Somalia with Sahel Region not in play because of expulsion, it is hard for Raila to lose. It maybe tight. but Raila seem to have an edge, now that
 Algeria
 Angola
 Botswana
 Burundi
 Central African Republic
 Congo
 Democratic Republic of the Congo
 Equatorial Guinea
 The Gambia
 Ghana
 Guinea-Bissau
 Malawi
 Mauritius
 Nigeria
 Rwanda
 Seychelles
 South Sudan
 Tanzania
 Togo
 Uganda
 Zambia
 Zimbabwe
South Africa
...And many Nywele ngumu countries are sticking together!

We'll see. Ruto ran all over with Amina Mohamed in 2017. Got floored badly by Francophone guy from Chad.

Yes even Ethiopia, Egypt, SA, Naija are now in BRICS. Being pro-West with Rwanda is actually good for Kenya individually, but that doesn't wash at AU summit which is fully financed by China. Ruto was fronting sleepy Raila at Beijing AU heads meeting which was bad optics.

Amina Mohammed had three things working against her. She was a woman, fronted by Mlevi unorganized Uhuru, and she also came out as non Nywele Ngumu. Amina lost Uganda, South Sudan Burundi and Djibouti among aother countries that could have won. Now that Burundi, Uganda, and South Sudan in Raila's bag, things are much easy!

Kagame, DRC, Uganda AND Sudan has already pledged the support. Infact, EAC, buy default has to support Raila according to declaration! Looks like Raila, for the first time is going to make it like he did to Prime minsiter through Dr Ruto. Anything President Ruto supports sails through!

I hope Raila wins. This AU seat is big - you need advantage like all those UN offices in Nairobi probably shield you from coups that occur in the neighborhood. Africa going federal you need to retain a few big offices in EA aka Nairobi.

It looks like Ruto's billions have done the job again. Getting Raila as prime minister and now AU chairman, it looks like Raila has a colossal repayment to make to President Ruto. He stated that he has counted all the votes and is confident he has enough to secure victory! Ruto's North Africa Kenyan plan and EAC SADC jiujitsu seem to have cleared the way for Raila!
Quote
Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has expressed strong confidence of clinching the African Union Commission (AUC) chairperson seat in the upcoming elections.

Raila said having done his assignment, he is now well-prepared and "very" confident of trouncing his opponents.

"The campaigns have been successful. We have done our campaigns over the length and breadth of Africa, and we are sure we will get the votes from most countries of the continent," he said

Kagame and Tshiekedi pouring oil on baba's path as M23 breaks ceasefire wakati wa lala salama.

There will be a Friday special AU session to discuss Goma. Ruto's counterproductive efforts in the two Sudans, Ethiopia. DRC and now Goma conflicts will feature prominently.
