Kenya athletics on a downward spiral
« on: August 04, 2024, 09:36:01 PM »
The Olympic France performance is worst since the first time Olympics was invented.

Late Kevin Kiptum could have been Kenya flag bearer. Kipchoge should be retired coaching or consulting for Kenya sports.

Just seen 100m omanyala tried but lost to tall giant Jamaicans and Americans. Looks like he lost and not getting to finals.

Sprinting probably need 6 ft and above height with muscle. Bold was 6.5 and the winning Jamaicans are tall a.f.

I forgot to mention the shitty outfits.

Every other Kenyan seem to wear a different color. No consistency.

Probably different tenderpreneuers supplying costumes. It look like a huge mess here.

Money ..Kenya athletes in long distance don't see value of winning gold medal. The real money is in road races abroad

Like Pundit mentioned, Diamond League has ruined it, for the races they don't host.  I still see medals in 800(Moraa and Wanyonyi), and of course Faith Kipyegon and marathon.

Omanyala was a flash in the pan, and his fairy tale may be coming to an end.  He struggles mightily against quality competition, and at low altitudes.  Not going faster than 10.08 on what is the fastest track in history won't cut it.  The worst guy in the finals ran 9.91.

Yes I think we will be lucky if we get something out  Wanyonyi for 800m and 3000 steeplechase men - maybe team work to get a bronze or silver. We might get something from Kipchoge in Marathon.

Women - we excellent field - Morara 800m to medal - Faith & Chekpkoech 1500, 3000m & - faith willl double 5000m  - 10K meter world record holder chebet - could do both 5000 and 10,000m - and marathon women we are solid.

So give and take - 1 gold for men - 1 silver - 1 bronze
Women - 3 Golds - 3 silver - 3 Bronze.

Total medeal haul - 4 gold - 4 silver - 4 bronze.

Previously our women use to let us down - but now they are going to save us.

We are going with 4 reigning world record holders in 5 events
1500 - Faith
3000 - Chepkoech
5000 - Faith
10,000 - Chebet
Women Marathon - Peris  (women only record)

So we could potentially medal in 5 events - if we perform at our best.
Big risk - Kenya running for Arabs for 3,000 m and Ayana of Ethiopia is danger on 10K & 5k.

I thought she did do something shady there.  Hopefully she revenges with a world record in the 1,500.

Now left 1500 women, 3000 men steeplchase, 10K women, 5K men, and two marathons plus maybe Javelin; 7 events; we can medal in.

We picked Bronze via Kibiwott for men Steeplechase to make it 5 medals.

Looks like the Steeplechase pipeline has dried up in recent years.  The fear that consistency instilled in opponents is gone.

Letsile Tebogo zips up Noah Lyles big mouth in the 200.  The future of sprinting is in Southern Africa.  There were 4 Africans in the final, 2 Zimbabweans, 1 Botswanan and 1 Liberian.  You love to see that.

Tebogo got biggest cheer in club here. Noah was nearly dying. Too much arrogance when he won by whisker in 100m. Southern Africa nailing short distance
