Good morning church,
Today I want to briefly share on the primacy of the scriptures.

2 Peter 1:16-21King James Version (KJV)

16 For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of his majesty.

17 For he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

18 And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with him in the holy mount.

19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:

20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.


The reason Jesus left twelve apostles after his ascension was so that they may be witnesses to his resurrection, an event on which Christianity is hinged. Not just resurrection but also his life.

In the passage above , Peter one of the disciples and later apostles writing long after Jesus ascended,is recounting Transfiguration. He was there, saw it, and nothing would change that.

But in verse 19,Peter reminds us that over and above these eye witness accounts we have SCRIPTURES. These are MORE SURE/RELIABLE/TRUSTWORTHY. more sure than what? Than personal experiences.At the point of writing the epistle, little had been done of the NT so Peter was talking about the commonly called Old Testament.

If the inspired apostle regarded scripture more sure than his own experiences,how much more should we elevate scriptures above experiences of uninspired men!

Whenever you find a sect/group that elevates personal experiences, visions and dreams above the Word of God, they almost always stray from the truth. This is why I resist the 'Thus saith the Lord' gang. The scriptures are SUFFICIENT and more sure.

Paul once had glorious visions and he only spoke about them 14 years later and even then in passing and was quite vague about them. There was a church in Berea in Acts 17 that used to check whatever Paul taught them daily to see if his teachings aligned with the word of God. This was considered NOBLE.

For this reason, the title prophet don't scare me, am more interested in whether whatever you are spewing is aligned to the Word of God. Nor am I moved by miracles and signs....it is always about the Word never spectacle.

Beloved, the lesser of the Word of God you have in/with you, the more likely you are to be swayed by the spectacular. Let this Word dwell richly in you-Colossians 3:16, and you will be least excited by the Spectacular.
